hi all
we "must" use the latest amendments, they are official and well tested.
have been used on the Italian circuit for a while. we really should keep up to-date.
plus there are more fun in any case

Re: Derby October 3rd 2015 - World Games Impetus
Sorry guys. It was made clear at the beginning of the year what rules we would be using. The new amendments were only published and became "official" a few weeks ago which is too late for them to be used in this tournament.
Especially as they were only publicised on this forum today which is only 9 days before the tournament and too late for people to react.
If this means you wish to make changes to your armies then please feel free to do so and resend to me before the end of Sunday. Anyone spotting that the amendments had been published and wished for us to use them should have raised the issue then.
All lists need to be in by close of play Sunday so that the draw can be made on Monday evening - hopefully via a live google hangout so that everyone can watch or catch later on youtube.
As for the last comment I made it clear that I would post all the lists on line once they were all in. To post them before then gives an advantage to those handing in their lists late. No one was asked to post voluntarily post their lists.
As shown on my post above we are still waiting for 3 more army lists to be submitted. Please submit these before end of Sunday so that the draw can be made on Monday.
We don't want to go down the route of penalties.

Re: Derby October 3rd 2015 - World Games Impetus
Sorry Ross but can you please reconsider, These rules are official , have been discussed on this forum for months and have been officially adopted. Of the players attending ALL who have posted on the matter here have expressed a preference for using them. Not using them may significantly effect how armies are balanced, will throw out those of us using playsheets and may cause reference complications on the day as there may be other changes between the 1.6 and 1.7 Advanced Impetus which have not yet been highlighted.
I see no value in playing an outdated set of rules, particularly one that has been shown to have serious flaws relating to VBU5 Javelins and Impetuous FL.

Re: Derby October 3rd 2015 - World Games Impetus
at the TO's request i have edited this message.
due to an unfortunate disagreement regarding the amendments i feel that it would be unfair on others to change my army at such a late time especially having seen others' lists.
i wish the remaining competitors the best of luck.
no personal abuse was meant to the TO

Frazer
You messaged me once about this and it was yesterday. I replied to your message and your forum post. I also clarified on this forum exactly what the situation is and gave you (and any others) a chance to amend your list if you wish to.
There is also a very detailed explanation of why this decision has been reached above.
That is quite different to "sticking my head in the sand" although I can see the attractions of that policy!
Please also keep the abuse and bad language to your pms as it might be intimidating to others that might also wish to post on this topic.

I am also consulting with other players in the tournament to get more views. But please, no more abuse eh?
Or I will be introducing the rugby rule and giving all your troops a 10 yards penalty

Re: Derby October 3rd 2015 - World Games Impetus
I have tried pms to sort this out and asked for some humour and pleasantness from Frazer and Ken and not received either. In fact the opposite.
So with great regret to the other people who have responded kindly to my emails for feedback on this subject and shown support regards the online abuse I have decided that its really not worth it and I am withdrawing.
I doubt I will go to Derby at all.
If anyone wants to take over send me an email.
Life is stressful enough right now without this and I will not be following this thread.

I hope that for the respect of players that book to attend, someone can take over the competition. Derby is an important event on the season and although this year I cannot manage to attend and bring with me some Italian players, it has always been a great place to meet other Impetus players and I really like to come in 2016.

It seems senseless to be disrespectful, that it is ok for the rules being used at the tourney be established by the organizer, and that the organizer backing out isn't healthy either.

Re: Derby October 3rd 2015 - World Games Impetus
Just in from work and rather puzzled and overwhelmed by much of this - I've tried wherever possible here to keep things civilised and reasonable, or so I thought. I have made what I thought were suggestions to Ross by email and I've had some responses in rapid succession which I couldn't respond to properly as I was at work and operating off a phone so I can't realistically comment. In fact at least for now I can't see any point in engaging with the various comments and accusations from anyone here as that will just pour oil on a burning fire and will do no good. I would ask everyone to take a step back and a breath. I will contact Ross and take up his comments etc off list as clearly he has a different understanding of what has been said, and while I am "a little peeved" at some of the comments I see no value in further prolonging the embarrassment for all concerned by airing it all here.
So at Lorenzo's request I'm happy to take over organising assuming that is acceptable. I will need some information from Ross, specifically
1. Do we have confirmed tables and how many?
2. Contact list for those attending?
3. What terrain arrangements have been made - ie do we have covers \ cloths arranged and by who? If not I will make suitable arrangements
4. What terrain has been arranged?
5. Is there a trophy and if so who has it?
6. Has any prizes been arranged and if so with who?
That's all I can think of for now
Other than that I can give my personal guarantee that there will be a competition at Derby this year for everyone who wants to play. I will also say that everyone remains welcome.
I would prefer to use the current version of the rules, however if two players drawn against each other feel they wish to use another version that is fine by me.
I hope this is acceptable
Ken

Oh and in response to Jez - yes I will gerrymander the first round to avoid any home draws as long as I am aware of them

Re: Derby October 3rd 2015 - World Games Impetus
Dear All
Just looking on the site now - my thoughts are we have to use the latest Advanced rules version. Ironically literally the other night I actually binned the Jan 2015 amendments, as I would not need them anymore.
Posting the lists on the forum was just an idea for fun to get a bit of excitement going. I don't think anyone is worried at all about any advantages gained.
I hope Ross will want to play, but if not then we just need to find another to fill the place and we are back to even numbers ...
For organising I think the best person to contact is Richard Waring
competition@worldwargames.co.uk
From memory sure we bring our own terrain but the tabletops are already green painted tables.
To be honest we don't now need much organising we are just 10 players turning up, doing a draw and then having 3 fun games.
Cheers Jez

I have spoken to Andy at Old Glory and he will provide a prize (not sure what but it was short notice) and also Lorenzo has offered 3 sets of Baroque when it is published. If anyone has connections with traders or manufacturers and can wrangle something please shout out.
Terrain - if not too difficult could we all bring terrain we would intend to use - ie no more than 3 pieces needed and cold you check dimensions?

Yes - just to reiterate Lorenzo asked me to step in, it's not some dastardly (and humourless) coup, and critically THERE WILL STILL BE A TOURNAMENT SATURDAY.
Sorry for the caps but someone asked me off list to confirm
Ross hasn't as yet got back to me but I'm aware there was a certain Rugby match yesterday and him being both a Rugby man and Welsh I suspect his priorities may have been elsewhere. If he does that would be helpful but if not we can manage.

Ross Figurepainting wrote:Just to clarify.
I am not bothered what rules are used. Remember there are other people in the tournament that do not follow the forums or post aggressive messages and I was trying to get their feedback as well. In my opinion, their view is just as valid as the trolls and flamers.
I have withdrawn due to the aggressive posts and emails I was receiving from Ken and Frazer. Neither has apologised or withdrawn any of these comments and no action has been taken about the flaming on the forum.
I only stepped in as organiser as no-one else was prepared to do it.
We had an odd number of players and I was quite happy to organise, not play and spend my time going around the show.
Its a stressful time anyway and I would really prefer to not have the grief.
Ken has been many times to Derby and knows the answers to all his questions. I have also forwarded the details and he is just trolling.
I have also now stopped following this thread and will leave you to it.
I'm going to ignore that last one from Ross as it is about as accurate as it is helpful. Anyone wishing to see the actual emails etc I'll happily show them at Derby but I see no point in continuing to sour this thread.
I will work on the assumption that the answer to my questions is no and will try and make suitable arrangements. Clearly we have an odd number so if there is anyone who knows someone else who wishes to take part or would be kind enough to make the numbers up please get them to contact me? If we still end up with odd numbers I will happily sit on my hands for the day to allow everyone to play
Thanks

Re: Derby October 3rd 2015 - World Games Impetus
OK quick update
We have 8 players confirmed plus Fraser has also volunteered to step aside if needed. I would prefer to try and find a sub for Ross - if we can find a tenth then we can all play. As far as the draw goes I would propose two pools, Pool 1 Matt, Tony Jez and John and Pool 2 Me, Paul , Jan and James, which should ensure if the first round is drawn with one opponent from each pool we will have no inter club games, with the added bonus of a possible Anglo Scots historical match
Does that seem reasonable? If so I will get a witness and make the draw - cant do any of that techno stuff with live on line draws though.
Richard (Overall organiser) has answered most of the stuff I needed, and Fraser will bring the trophy. Everyone will still need to bring their 3 terrain pieces - more if you want options - is that ok?
Prizes - Old Glory are going to give us 3 packs of Mongols as a prize, which is nice of them, and there are also 3 sets of Baroque from Lorenzo. Would players prefer the Mongols as first prize, or prefer them as a "raffle" style prize for one player drawn at random?? Anyone got a preference??
