How Baroque deals with enclosed fields/ linear obstacles terrain ?
Hi All,
I am quite familiar with the I2 rules set , and Baroque is very similar.
The terrain rules list enclosed fields as difficult terrain, which is probably correct. However under linear terrain it also says fields surrounded by hedges fences and walls and the field being classed as open or rough terrain ?
I am concerning myself here to the first ECW and the gradual enclosure from the open field system of farming. The enclosures made it easier to look after grazing animals , and it seems that the enclosed fields for grazing were smaller than the fields of today.
I can see that light troops would like to occupy these enclosed fields v’s Cavalry, but I can’t see Pike and Shotte wanting to occupy these fields. For a start how would they negotiate moving between them when the only access was via a gated entrance ?
For similar reasons Cavalry wouldn’t want to have to risk jumping over hedges, walls or fences so would avoid these areas preferring the open adjacent field.
So should this terrain be classed as difficult to dissuade players from placing Cavalry or Pike and Shotte units in them .
The larger ECW battles all seem to have been fought on open terrain with maybe small enclosed fields being on the flanks. This terrain ideally being occupied by Dragoons, Shotte and Forlorn Hope .
What do other gamers think ?
