Disorder in Terrain
May have asked this before, but have forgotten the answer. Can a unit rally in disordering terrain, then count as ordered if it does not move? Specifically, could a T unit move through difficult terrain (woods say), rally at the edge, then count as good order for shooting out? As a related question, if the unit starts the game placed at the edge of a wood does it count as in order?

Re: Disorder in Terrain
I think the answer to all your questions is yes. I believe rule 3.1.1 is clear that disorder from terrain is a consequence of movement, so standing still doesn't cause disorder. The rule is specifically about effects of terrain on movement, and talks about units crossing the terrain, so moving.
For your last question, I've always assumed all units start the game in good order (and if not in ambush may be on opportunity, which isn't available to disordered units).
Note also that the move which takes units out of the terrain doesn't cause disorder. So T right on the edge of woods can move out of the woods without disorder, but are disordered if they cannot clear the woods in their move. Also such terrain effects only apply if half or more of the unit is in the terrain (rule 3.1)
On the other hand, there are some terrain effects which are independent of movement, or which apply even if less than half the unit is in the terrain. For example, there are units which have negative melee modifiers, or negative cohesion modifiers, when fighting in broken or difficult ground, even if the unit is in good order and hasn't moved. Some units lose their impetus if any part of them is in unsuitable terrain.

Re: Disorder in Terrain
Always played it that terrain disorders at all times. You have to move out of the terrain ( disordered ) and then spend the next turn in the open to reorder.
Glad to wrong about this but that's how we've done it

Re: Disorder in Terrain
I believe RogerC is correct Tarty. It is moving through terrain that causes disorder. One can rally in terrain that disorders that unit and if it doesn't move it does not disorder. RogerC is definitely correct about troops exiting disordering terrain in one move not becoming disordered. So a T unit moving in difficult ground can escape it in one move (not so easy since the T unit is moving at 1/2 speed) it would not become disordered.

Re: Disorder in Terrain
Just to back up Roger and GC. Movement causes the disorder and certain terrain affects melee regardless of movement.

Re: Disorder in Terrain
Given there's a rule that moving out of disordering terrain does not cause disorder it would seem logical that there is the ability to be ordered within that terrain.

That was my understanding. It's logical, but I have been canned plenty of times for using logic

Naaaa, it's the same as using instructions when you have to build something, you only read the instructions as a last resort

I'm told it's a male thing, same as not asking for directions when trying to get somewhere.
