Re: 28mm Impetus Competition York Sunday 5th February 2017
IMPORTANT ORGANISERS UPDATE - THE DRAW
As is traditional the first round draw will be gerrymandered to try to ensure you don't end up playing against the same old faces from your local club. To allow this I need to know who plays regularly against who, so please shout out now so I can make suitable arrangements. I'm also going to try and put the more experienced competition players into a pool so they will only play each other in round 1 - after that the scoring system will decide the draw. If Round 3 results in some "regular" match ups and the results won't impact on overall standings I'll be happy to make "suitable" adjustments if everyone is ok with that.
The aim of the competition is to have a good time and meet up with other Impetus players, so I'm going be awarding a prize for 1st place, then one for Best Camp as voted for by the players. After that the other prizes will (probably) be allocated on a lottery basis, to give everyone a chance of being rewarded for their attendance. I say probably because some of the sponsors may wish to put restrictions on their prizes.
Lastly - Peer review. Could everyone reading this take five extra minutes to grab a copy of Extra Impetus and check over some of the lists already posted, just to make sure we have no errors, and let us know which you have looked at?
Cheers
Ken

Peer review:
I've looked at Shaun R, JR2, Memnon and Incendiary Pig, all good to go as far as I can see.
This is looking to be a great competition.

Just a quick note about missing lists - I'm aware of two players at least who are having account issues with the forum so are struggling to post their armies.

I have no preference, Ken, I haven't played Frazer @ Impetus for a while, so no need to make an exception on my account.

RIGHT GENTS
Using a complicated system of pools and tables so as to ensure players do not meet their regular opponents. under strict invigilation from my cat Greebo, plus wearing the traditional white gloves, the draw for the Vapnartak Impetus Competition 2017 was conducted this morning.
With no further ado -
THE DRAW FOR ROUND ONE
Andy Walls vs Frazer Watson
Ken Natt vs Dax Robertson
Mark Hadman vs James Irvin
Paul Davison vs Tony Denis
Steven Johnson vs John Ryan
Fred Taylor vs Pete Anderson
Chris Coles vs Shaun Rimmer
Jamie White vs Jon Webb
LeighBrewster vs Paul Harrison
Good Luck all
Round 2 & 3 will be decided based on results as usual. We will be using the traditional 130 point scoring system btw.

Re: 28mm Impetus Competition York Sunday 5th February 2017
OK Gents, a last few points before we set off and in no particular order
Firstly please ensure you get there on time - ideally around 9-9:15 as I would very much like to stick to the 9:30 start. If you are going to be late or for some reason will be a no show please let me know on 07411082490
Terrain. Mark Hadman, Asgard Wargames and the Hartlepool Wargames Club are kindly providing some competition terrain however if your cunning plan for domination relies on a certain terrain piece of a certain size please bring it yourself.
Prizes
There will be a prize for Best Camp and Best Painted Army, plus an overall winners prize. Other prizes will be allocated at random to thank folks for attending. We have some VERY generous sponsors this year so if you are planning on spending any pocket money have a look at their wares or at least be nice and thank them for their support.
Lunch. We have an hour for lunch and shopping. There has been no diktat from YWS so I assume the usual rules apply - you can bring your own as long as you dispose of the refuse and don't cause a mess. I should add there is a very nice cafe down stairs and a bar should you require such. Time and location mitigate against going off site so either bring a packed lunch or use the cafe.
Umpires. This year we have no "spare" to act as umpire as we have even numbers and I would like to play too :-). What I propose is that we designate a couple of "senior" players to act as umpires should they be required. These are me, Frazer Watson and Mark Hadman. Please remember these guys are playing too so try and resolve your issues by discussion or amicably before calling on a ruling from on high. If you do require an umpire decision please understand we are all fallible and if we make a decision that turns out to be wrong accept it and abide by it for the moment and then we can have red faces later later :-)
Playing your games. This is the important one. Competitions can bring out the best and the worst in gamers. Could I ask everyone to remember it is at the end just a game and to treat everyone civilly and with respect. I don't expect we will have any issues as we are on the whole a fairly mellow group, but doesn't hurt to restate it.
The Public. Yes those irritating buggers will be wandering around throughout the day so if you do get some at your table take a moment to explain what's going on. You never know where our next convert will come from.
Game Etiquette. To avoid confusion could I please ask everyone to follow the following game etiquette.
1 introduce your troops after set up - a simple "these are xyz with whatever". All troops should be representative but with some of Impetus bases being similar and basing conventions being what they are it is worth doing. Similarly point out which general is which and what their ratings are.
2. Explain your markers and loss recording system. Some of us use dials, some dice etc. Explain what your system is and particularly if you count up or down - ie is that dice showing a 5 losses taken or VBU remaining? :-)
3. Explain your moves and intent, and please don't just roll dice then explain "oh that was my discipline check" after. Also remember if you intend to add a charge bonus to a move you should announce this BEFORE the move is taken. This is particularly important as we have some less experienced players this year, who I hope will enjoy the games enough to come back next time. Getting beat is one thing, getting beat AND not understanding what just happened is neither fun nor a learning experience and is likely to put people off.
4. Dice - agree what is cocked and what is not before you start. If you are using bespoke dice with symbols point out if these are 1s or 6s in advance.
5. Don't throw it. When you are in a hopeless situation it is sometimes easy to think about throwing in the towel and getting a cup of tea. Please don't. If you give one player an easy win then that is unfair on the others. Play it to the conclusion, take a hit for the team.
6 Finishing early. If you do finish early feel free to wander off but only AFTER you have filled in the result on your sheets and handed it in. Please ensure you are back and ready for the start of the next round. Of course you could also do a tea \ coffee run if you want - mine is tea, milk, no sugar :-)
Bring a spare copy of your army list to show the opposition
Bring some paper and a pen
That's probably about it. The main thing is we all have fun and enjoy our games
See you tomorrow
