Massed Reiters
Hi,
Does anyone else feel that Massed Horse/Reiters (as in the Parliamentarian list) are incredibly cheap points wise?
Very little penalisation for being massed, and incredibly powerful as written in the rules.
Just my tuppence....

Re: Massed Reiters
Well, the -1 to checks for discipline for moving hurts, as do penalties for retreat & pursuit. 39pts for what is effectively a 7-1 in melee is probably too cheap though for massed RE. Should be about 45 pts, IMHO.
We are finding that Point Blank Pistol only is the better buy, as you almost never get to fire pistol/carbines at 1 BU. In 2 games carbines have never been fired. The fear of causing a reaction charge from the firing & getting caught at the halt is the problem. Save the 4 points & skip carbines, not worth it. Carbines cost should probably be lowered.

Re: Massed Reiters
A bargain perhaps but not "incredibly cheap".
That said I don't expect any points values to stand up to scrutiny. Do you think guns are worth 10-15-20 points?

Re: Massed Reiters
if well used the carbines (and the carcoll) can work. But it was difficult also at the time in the battlefield.

Re: Massed Reiters
True, there was a reason why the caracole was dropped as a tactic.

Re: Massed Reiters
I thought massed Reiters would cost either 76 or 86 points depending on their D rating.

Re: Massed Reiters
Massed Reiters are not Impetus style large units - it is a single unit base, so has the same cost as ordinary reiters, adjusted for being Slow
Re: Massed Reiters
That makes them worth having then.
Thanks

Re: Massed Reiters
massing troops has pros and cons. For reiters usually it is better to mass.

Re: Massed Reiters
If you say that your massed Reiters are going to move, shoot and then charge and you opponent then declares an opportunity charge during your initial movement phase are you classed as charging or do you meet them at the halt, or try for a counter charge?

Re: Massed Reiters
During your initial movement action - you count as moving not charging, during your shooting action you count as shooting not charging, during your charge action you count as charging.
It all depends at what point the enemy decide to interrupt you.
