I have a question...

Imagine the Blue Army with 3 commands

Command Alfa with VD10
Command Beta c-c with VD20
Command Charlie with VD10

In a turn blue army suffers 10 VD points ... 5 in Alfa and 5 in Charlie ...

Is blue army defeated????

Your total VD (VDT) is  : 10+20+10 = 40
Then when you lost 20 pts of VDT (the half), you are defeated.

Yes ... but the VD are for commands, no?

If Command Alfa loses 5 point is defeated

If Command Charlie loses 5 point is also defeated ...

Then loses up to 20 points and the army is defeated...

If Alfa and Charlie are defeated (lost 5 pts each), the VDT lost for army is 10+10 = 20, half of the army's VDT.

Then is posible ... 25% of loses may cause the army disband...

In that situation, Andreu, yes.

The calculation is based on the total VDT. You have 40 VDT which, if losses were spread equally over your three commands, would mean a break point of 20 VDT.

However, if you have an individual command broken, then at the end of the turn you remove that command and count it all as lost. So by losing that command in fact, you have already lost 10 VDT just from one command. If this was repeated in the same turn with another command in the same turn then your losses at the end of the turn now equal 20 VDT. And your army has broken.

What do you learn from this?

Small commands are fragile and often need to be protected until they can do what you want them to do. Is that why you had the large (20 VDT) command?

Think about using fewer and bigger commands. They can take more punishment.

Look at this another way. You lost two out of three commands. That would ruin any general's day.

Very well put Starkadder. I normally run 2 Commands, usually fairly even in VDU, or 3 Commands, also with fairly even VDU where possible if I have poor Command Structure.

More Commands gives you more Commanders to spread over the Command Radius and more chances to Rally if you have C Class Troops and also a better chance to Rally the actual Commander.
