B class warriors.

Whilst I do like playing these rules, with a qroup of friends, this point bugs me!


As someone who has studied history for a very long time and played wargames since the 1970,s

C class troops, in these rules, are disadvantaged as they should be, against B class troops.

Why therefore, in impetus , Warrior’s, knights and others types who have been training all their life, are C class. Troops who have little training or desire to fight, can be better class or are at worse, the same class.

Examples of this being Samurai, Norman Knights, Saxon Warriors.??


All of which are trained to fight together in units and follow orders, unlike many other  C class troops who are more likely to run away .

I think it means that the troops are either undisciplined or impetuous, not necessarily unmotivated.

C troops may be strong and eager to fight but not very disciplined to fight in formation. If good they are an high VBU.

I cannot agree with this. Historical this does not make sense.

Take a few examples samurai, these are highly trained fighters, who have spent there life training and their high sense of honour would mean they were more likely to obey orders than the latter massed Assugirui they would have officered.

Saxon and or Scandinavian warriors, these were similar in some ways to the samurai, in that the were trained fighters with high honour. These must not be confused with the massed levies that were called up from there farms to fight, ie bondi and fyrd.


Garrison regular soldiers. These were more likely poorly trained with little experience of fighting or will to do so. More like D class than even C, but for some reason the army lists often make them B class

Skirmishes? Why B class. These people may be able to use a bow or sling or throw a javelin, but really! In most battles with a few exceptions, they were nothing more than poor peasants who could not afford better guy.

In these rules to reduce a unit to C class means they are harder to rally and much harder to order. By giving them a higher vbs or higher impetus value is not the answer.

I like the rules but they do need amending to make them more realistic.
