Noob questions ;)

Hi.

I'm a (future) new french player. I've loaded the BI rules and buy the Impetus rules (comming soon in my postmail).
I play a lot of wargames since many years (20+ ), but more in skirmish system and med-fan or future/post-apo worlds.

Since a few years, I want to play historical and in 15 mm. I've looking for a rule and found Impetus, that seem good for me. I've not play yet, but I've a noob question :

Actually, I've some 15 mm minis (Ottomans and Wallachians) but I've beginning basing them for another game (and I certainly never use this other rule). So my minis are on 4 cm front bases.
I'd know if I can play (my first parts only, for trying the rules) with 4 cm front Units and if it's OK, shall I change ranges (i.e. 1 U = 0,5 cm ) or not ?

Another question : Is someone here playing Ottomans ? or Wallachians ? I'm interesting to read some battlereports, etc.

you can play keeping 4cm frontage and using 2 units to form a 8cm frontage.
As an alternative you can play with 1U=0,5cm, it works

Another question :

I've received today my Impetus rule book (french version). On army lists (on rulebook and on beta army on the website), it could be noted "or" ("ou" in french). If a unit is noted (exemple):
0-3 CP Xxx
or CM Yyy

Does it mean I can take 0-3 Xxx OR 0-3 Yyy or a combinaison of this, like : 1 Xxx and 1 Yyy ?

And if Cavalry can be taken dismounted, can I've just a part of them dismonted and others mounted ?

Yes, if a list says 'or' you can have any combination of the listed troops. I know Lorenzo confirmed this on the old forum but haven't tracked that down. I believe this applies to mounted/dismounted as well.

However, there are a few beta lists, and lists in the Extra Impetus supplements which use 'OR ALL' (the beta lists seem to be in English even from the French version of the website). In that case, you can only have one or other of the troop types. An example is in the Justinian Byzantines in the Medieval beta lists, where the Kavallarioi can be CL, or two different types of CM, but you can only have one type in your army.

I've looking Beta lists on Impetus site. I'll want to play ottomans vs wallachians, but I've seen Hungarians army is best. Wallachians have à poor CS ! Bad thing

Quite right Roger. It is misleading but if it says OR in the list you can use any combination of the troop types and mounted or dismounted (however, most of the lists make you pay the same price for mounted or dismounted troops, unless stated otherwise in the description at the bottom of the list).

Hello. I've other questions.

I've received my Extra Impetus 3 with Wallachian army.

S Archers, T Crossbowmen and S Handgunner have the same cost (12 pts) and profile . Only weapons are different : short bow B (2/-1/-/-), crossbow B (2/0/-/-), Handgun (2/-1/-/-).

What shall I take on my army ? There is not really different, isn't it ?

Can someone help me ?

any, but handgunners are crap, so better to stay with bow or crossbow

All depends what you want to achieve and what you think you'll fight against. Try to keep your list historical and you should do OK.
