I'm part way through painting a new army and was wondering how to base the generals. Should I go for within the units (as most of mine are for Impetus), or as separate command bases as in Baroque? How are generals likely to work in Impetus 2?

All my generals/commanders are on separate bases except chariot generals. Not sure how to model them since chariots themselves are so big.

they are markers and they have no "volume". For measuring count the head of the leader.

I think there should be both options, with a discount for generals attached to their bodyguard unit & unable to leave unless the unit routs.

I too have spent a lot of time rebasing to make my formerly separate FOG/ADLG general bases part of units now.

I think it is OK either way so long as clear where the general is ..... the separate base is nice as you can go for a mini diorama if you want and have flexibility to attach to any suitable command unit from the list. OR if a unit has an extra banner as the command unit that is clear as well.

I will work on both options. From a modelling point of view a simple marker can also be used.

Anyway you are not forced to move a general from a Unit to another Unit. If attached you have pros and cons. One of the cons is that a leader can be killed only if attached and that benefits are limited to that Unit. If Unatacched you don't risk but you provide no particular advantage to other units apart from haveing a wider command radius.
