Basic Impetus v Impetus?
Hi All
Just wondering if regular players are mixing between playing Basic Impetus and Impetus? This has just arisen for me as have some SAGA Norman and Anglo Dane figures - I want to use for an Impetus game but did not have enough skirmish figures for a large army.
I suddenly thought of Basic Impetus and can see from the list that this would be a possibility. I can easily add on to a few sabot type bases. This led me to review the Basic Impetus rules and found I quite liked the simpler approach in a lot of areas.
I have not played Basic Impetus yet though - just curious if other players are mixing and matching?

Re: Basic Impetus v Impetus?
Sure I play both Basic and full Impetus. Basic Impetus is a great way to get your figures on the table quickly and equally gives a quick easy game. Later you can play full Impetus which is a more comprehensive game, but of course requires more figures and time to play. Both versions are highly enjoyable so you really can't go wrong.

Re: Basic Impetus v Impetus?
Hi Jez, I had my first game yesterday for basic Impetus 2.0 and I really liked it. It is a rather quick game perfect for a limited time frame. Having around 10 Elements makes it possible to have enough tactical options to have fun especially because the lists are historical flavoured with strengths and weaknesses.
I play both, but I will stick to BI 2.0 for the next time due to time limits and the fact, that I really like the moving distances of BI more with the new H measurement basis instead of BU. Lorenzo did also change the distances and chances for a successful persuit, which is less likely in BI. That changes the game in a nice way. Sometimes a flank was so strangely disrupted because there were persuits going on in opposite directions. Since this is now less likely, the look of a battle works better for me. Moreover I think it might also work to use whatever Impetus Rule you like in Basic Impetus e.g. supported flanks or indirect fire if you want to beef up the option a little bit. However it is a difference and every Impetus player needs to accept, that BI is less detailed.

Re: Basic Impetus v Impetus?
We've been playing a lot of Basic here lately. They've gone over quiet well in our group with a couple of competitions played and more already planned.
While not the same as full Impetus they're very enjoyable none the less. Outstanding competition rule set I think, can really get through a few games in a day with players getting a reasonable assortment of opponents.

Same here really enjoying Basic Impetus 2 and how it flows so easy. Sure hope some of the changes will also make their way into Impetus 2.

We started playing because of BI. Great set of rules. Quick and fun to play.

Re: Basic Impetus v Impetus?
Hi update from me after starting this thread.
This year have managed to get in 15 games so far - 14 are all Basic Impetus and only one in the "normal" Impetus 400 points.
I am also a big fan now of Basic Impetus and really prefer some of the different elements over normal Impetus. For example skirmisher rules in basic Impetus.
Think the problem for me know is getting confused when going back to play normal Impetus.

Re: Basic Impetus v Impetus?
We switch a lot from Baroque to Impetus which can confuse, because Baroque has a lot of good features Impetus needs to borrow :-)

I Concur. Don't make the DBA/DBM mistake of diverging your starter intro game and the full version into two different systems.
Impetus 2 cannot come fast enough to move everything into the BI2 & Baroque system.

Re: Basic Impetus v Impetus?
Like Jez, nearly all my Impetus games this year have been BI2, including a couple of 'Great Battles'.
I have also had a few Baroque games and have usually managed to switch between BI2 and Baroque without getting too confused. Or maybe I just didn't notice my mistakes.

Re: Basic Impetus v Impetus?
Impetus and Baroque for us - tried BI but it's irretrievably broken so haven't gone back to it.
Agree Impetus II can't arrive soon enough
