counter Charge
We played our second game today and everything went very well. Rules certainly making a lot of sense. Our only query was counter charging.
Now what happened was A had a unit on opportunity charge.
B (Me) attempted to charge.
Now there was a chance that B might not make the charge range due to distance so...
If unit A declares a charge, does Unit B have to declare counter charge before anything has moved?
Or
Can B wait until he sees if A fails the charge and becomes disordered before B can declare to counter charge?
From a realistic point of view i.e seeing it through a commanders eyes A is charging and you have to make a decision to counter charge, not wait to they stop to counter charge, but thats just me.

Re: counter Charge
You make the decisions to charge, counter charge, opportunity charge or evade, etc before the dice are rolled.
If the counter-charge is successful you meet at the half-way point - you can't do that if you wait for the enemy to fall short

Re: counter Charge
I have a question about counter-charge too.
In QRS v1.7 failure of discipline test means disorder, but may perform an action. I didn't find in Rulebook or Advanced that you can charge when failed test.
So, is QRS right and you can counter-charge with disorder after failed test?

Re: counter Charge
5.9 makes it clear that a DT failure for a counter charge causes the unit to disorder and its does not charge/move. One of the reasons why one rarely sees a unit counter-charge when not on opportunity. Not worth the risk. Better to stay in good order and forgo the impetus dice. But there are occasional times when moving is important and worth the risk.

Re: counter Charge
Interesting. I have not seen the counter-charge rule amended in AI (as you note) nor on this Forum or the Old Forum so I would presume that the QRS is in error.
