Point Blank Pistol
I was wondering the rational as to why this is a 'once only' effect. Why would they not reload when the opportunity presented ?
I understand that TR were often only provided with limit shot, so that would certainly be a reason. But we have RE with shooting pistol as well as point blank - so they would have the shot.
In fact should RE have point blank pistol ? Or should they have a better chance to issue defensive fire ?
For lancers - first charge, then broken lances etc, so no issue with a once only effect.

Re: Point Blank Pistol
Its basically the pilum rule from Impetus. Not sure why cav don't retain the PBP bonus as long as they are fresh with no hits like pilum.

I think the PBS is meant to reflect the close shot on the way in - it presumes an intent to close to contact.
RE also get to shoot in addition, it's a fair point about whether they should get PBS as well, depends how close you think they have got to the TR end of their spectrum I guess. Massed RE probably shouldn't for instance.
I think if it was replenishable, it would slow the game as cavalry advanced and pulled away repeatedly rather than got stuck in.
Be easy to house rule and try though if that's your thing.

In my particular rules, to play solo in the late seventeenth century, PBP is a bonus to melee, not a way of shooting. Only you have that bond, in the first clash of the melee. But you can have that bond in a new melee. I understand that riders can give them time to reload the gun.

Currently you only get PBP once per game, there is no reload.
Baroque could used a similar model to you, and just used PBP as +3 die on melee rather than a separate outcome. If you are lucky with PBP you will lower the VBU of you opponent before resolving the melee.

This is how pilum will be modelled in BI2 and in Impetus 2.
