350 point Comp Mongol Army
This is a fine tuned version of a previously posted Mongol list. The more I understand the rules, the more I like high quality maneuverable mounted forces. This is for a 28mm competition, 350 point lists on 6x4 tables.
Mongol Command Average, 2 Good Generals = 52
Elite Cavalry, CM, VBU 6, A Bow = 37
Elite Cavalry, CM, VBU 6, A Bow = 37
Cavalry, CM, VBU 6, B Bow = 32
Cavalry, CM, VBU 6, B Bow = 32
Cavalry, CM, VBU 5, B Bow = 30
Light Cavalry, CL, VBU 4, B Bow = 27
Light Cavalry, CL, VBU 4, B Bow = 27
Light Cavalry, CL, VBU 4, B Bow = 27
Light Cavalry, CL, VBU 4, B Bow = 27
Auxiliary Light Cavalry, CL, VBU 3, B Bow = 22
10 units, VD = 23
Very simple - 5 Cavalry, 5 light horse units, all with bow.

Re: 350 point Comp Mongol Army
Personally, I would go with more CL and less CM. In my opinion the VBU4 CL armed with Composite Bow B is the best unit in Impetus. I play against a Mongol army that fields 8 units of CL and 2 of CM and it is very challenging to face. Facing your list with my Middle Assyrian army or a HYW English would scare me less than his.

Re: 350 point Comp Mongol Army
2 Good General so let's assume a roughly even split of VD, say 13 to 10.
Hit the 13 point command and kill 7 points of VD and it breaks.
And then it takes the whole army over 50% and they're gone.
Excellent troops but a rather brittle army on a 6x4.
Much more suited to 15mm where there is extra room to roam.

Re: 350 point Comp Mongol Army
Good Morning Gentlemen
This is my first post on this forum, so please accept my apologies if I an stating something that has already been discussed or am missing something.
I have played a few games at 350 points and on occasion against Mongols.
I think it is very difficult to judge how this army would perform without knowing how the commands are split. With a 2 command army it seems to me there are a number of different options, all with their own advantages or issues.
The first option would be to rebuild the list to allow you to split the commands exactly evenly by VD, so both commands are even in VDT. I would probably not split them as mirror images. This would mean you can discount loss of your camp as a factor, and as long as both are active many opponents would find it difficult to amass enough fighting and killing power to isolate and destroy one command.
The second option would be an uneven split with the Light Horse concentrated. That would allow you to demonstrate to the front and flank march or manoeuvre for a flank with the other. If this style of play is your hope you may wish to consider changing your command levels so that you have a poor and an expert general, and use the expert as a flanker.
If I may be so bold as to comment on the other suggestions and comments?
I would agree with Mr Gaius Cassius in that you may have too much medium cavalry. That restricts your tactical choices and commits you to contacts that you may wish to avoid - cm evade requires a discipline check, when CL usually does not. Against most troops your CL will be as much a threat but gain the ability to evade with more predictability.
I'm not so sure about Mr Granicus Guagemela's point. While it is true you can in theory attempt to break the larger command, it does require some high mobility or concentrated missile fire, or a compliant opponent. I'm unsure of how you could "hit the 13 point command and kill 7 points of VD" without placing your one command in jeopardy from the other Mongol command.
Thank you and good luck.
Otto

Re: 350 point Comp Mongol Army
So a few questions for people who have played Mongols:
1. At 350 points, assuming you cannot have 1 general, would you have 2 or 3?
2. How would you split up the units between 3 commands?
I have the figures to swap out CM for more CL so that is not a problem.

Re: 350 point Comp Mongol Army
Further to the above, here is a v2 lists with more CL and less CM:
Mongol Command Average, Good, poor, poor Generals = 52
Elite Cavalry, CM, VBU 6, A Bow = 37
Elite Cavalry, CM, VBU 6, A Bow = 37
Cavalry, CM, VBU 6, B Bow = 32
Cavalry, CM, VBU 5, B Bow = 30
Light Cavalry, CL, VBU 4, B Bow = 27
Light Cavalry, CL, VBU 4, B Bow = 27
Light Cavalry, CL, VBU 4, B Bow = 27
Light Cavalry, CL, VBU 4, B Bow = 27
Light Cavalry, CL, VBU 4, B Bow = 27
Light Cavalry, CL, VBU 4, B Bow = 27
This could have one CL command with 3 CL, another with 2 CL and 1 CM, and the main one with 3 CM and 1 CL.

Elite Cavalry, CM, VBU 6, A Bow = 37
Elite Cavalry, CM, VBU 6, A Bow = 37
Cavalry, CM, VBU 6, B Bow = 32
Cavalry, CM, VBU 5, B Bow = 30
Light Cavalry, CL, VBU 4, B Bow = 27
Light Cavalry, CL, VBU 4, B Bow = 27
Light Cavalry, CL, VBU 4, B Bow = 27
Light Cavalry, CL, VBU 4, B Bow = 27

Re: 350 point Comp Mongol Army
Anyone with any views on how this army might be expanded to a 500 point list to fight in 15mm on a six x four table? Obviously I would boost the generals but with 100 points still to play with I can afford at least another 3 or 4 units.
What is a typical number of units people play with at 500 points?
