15mm Impetus Comp at CanCon 2015
Hi all. Just confirming we are holding a 15mm Impetus competition at CanCon in Canberra, Australia in January next year to supplement and complement the well established 28mm competition.
I want to thank Dean from Olympian Games for stepping up as our sponsor for this inaugural event. While we have a few who have suggested they will be playing, it would be great to hear on this forum from those who might be interested.
The details are all on the CanCon site run by the Canberra Games Society and we will be hosting it largely in line with the 28mm comp although there will be 5 games over two and a half days and armies will be 500 points.
Look forward to seeing you all there.

Well done Paul and Joel! I just signed up for this. If you do not get enough numbers I will play 25mm Impetus so either way count me in as a player.
Now to work out some 500 point army lists...

Re: 15mm Impetus Comp at CanCon 2015
Ok, Mark has asked me to post. His email details are on the CanCon website if you have any questions.
All lists should be emailed to the organiser for checking by 20 January.
Please note the following:
1. To give infantry armies a fighting chance, we are allowing the 40cm set up rule – thus all armies set up 40cm from the rear edge rather than 30cm. HOWEVER, the deployment area is still counted as 30cm for terrain rules.
2. Please bring up to 6 items of terrain that you will wish to place on the table should you be the defender in your games. If you cannot bring terrain let me know and we will cover for you.

The CanCon site has shut access to the Tournament page now entries have been closed, it might be good to post stuff here (inc Mark's email) or set up a specific group on Facebook.

Yes will do. Mark is away until tomorrow. We still have at least one spot available despite the CanCon closure so let us know here if you want to jump on.

Paul a new version of Advanced Impetus 2015 has just been released. Will we play with the new or old version?

Re: 15mm Impetus Comp at CanCon 2015
We will use the old version to ensure everyone is across it. We are advising all players at CanCon 2015 to focus on the two download documents on the Impetus website. They are:
Advanced Impetus (Amendments, Additional Rules, Clarifications), and;
Updated QRS (Quick Reference Sheet) (latest version)
Honestly, if you stick to those two documents you can't go wrong...the QRS is particularly useful.
Exciting that they have finally released the new update and I can't wait to see it.

Re: 15mm Impetus Comp at CanCon 2015
Need to be a bit careful, which version of the Advanced Impetus rules are we using - 2013 which is what loads from the Impetus website or the later 2014 version?
There are some key changes.

I will email a copy of the Adv Rules and QRS that we are using to ensure we are all on the same page. Also we will provide a box of dice for each table so there will be no actual or perceived advantage from using different dice.

Welcome Scott,
I am using Aztecs - Beta lists Renaissance. Unfortunately the Mayans had a Work transfer Injunction Clause optioned upon them so cannot come. So much for the Pyramid Wars.
Lists to Mark's email Address tomorrow the 20th Jan I believe - read above.
His email address to be listed still I think.

Re: 15mm Impetus Comp at CanCon 2015
Well the competition has come and gone, much like the Spartan army. Thanks to Mark and Paul for running the competition, which was good fun. Thanks also to all my opponents, Ian, Andrew, Ned, Jeff and Mark. All were fair to play and I learnt heaps.
The first thing I learnt is NEVER to take an all infantry army to a 15mm competition on 6 x 4 tables again. Just too slow... You get outflanked too easily if you double rank, and you get shot to bits and run down if you single rank. My dice were less than kind at times, but overall three loses, one win and a draw.... Next time Mongols or Samurai!
Things that worked well in my army list:
- 9 points on the terrain roll - worth it to get the advantage. It didn't save me, but the terrain was worth a lot more than one more Skirmisher unit.
- FL Theurophoroi with Spear - these guys won me a game, and I lost every game their command broke. Their speed is the key, plus shrugging off cavalry impetus bonuses.
On a six by four table with 15mm you simply have to have either cavalry or light infantry for mobility, or the Swiss forward deployment rule, or anchor behind a line of good shooters. Still, the game is fun and plays well. I will be back, on horseback.

Good meeting you at last mate, we have talked on many forums over the years!!
I agree on 15mm all infantry arms to a large extent, they really do get the runaround.
I too shall return, probably the Swiss unless I can get my act together and build another army!!

Re: 15mm Impetus Comp at CanCon 2015
Wow, I made it home a bit shattered after the weekend as usual but very happy with the level of enjoyment I received from playing Impetus all weekend. Thanks Mark for umpiring through a massive hangover (50th on the Friday night) and a cracked tooth. Thanks to all 9 of the other players who made it such an enjoyable competition. Special thanks to Andrew and Geoff who travelled from Perth to play, congrats to Rob (aka Granicus) and his killer Swiss. The first 15mm Impetus at CanCon and hopefully not the last... thanks again to everyone who took part, and the guys from The Shed who made the weekend such a hoot. Mark will post full results here...tell your friends and we can be even bigger and better next year.

Re: 15mm Impetus Comp at CanCon 2015
Excellent tourney guys, great gaming plus a bunch of entertaining chatter.
Four good/memorable games, Ian the Gentlemanly Mongol, Andrew the Dancing Devil with Later Sassanids (more A class shooty cavalry than you can poke a stick at, played incredibly well it was a sensational game, just when we had it locked down with him trapped in a canyon between the board edge and impassable terrain with a pike command at each end we ran out of time but given the damage inflicted by the archers it could have gone either way so a draw was fitting). Day 2 first up Consul Dazzler whose luck was as bad as could possibly be, Rod the Lord of Chaos in the afternoon had his tough command hooking around my left blocked only by my small command but he couldn't buy a successful rally for love nor money so they got delayed whilst the Swiss main did the job. Day 3 was Paul the Teuton and his massive men in metal vs the pikes. A truly grinding affair as we disordered on disorder our way through some big units. In the end after several survived rounds of melee vs the Swiss general, a full unit of Men at Arms AND some halberdiers getting stuck in his German men at arms had to retreat but were blocked from starting their retreat by some light cav and that was the climax of a close run thing.
Good tough gaming. Loved it. Thanks all

Re: 15mm Impetus Comp at CanCon 2015
Was great to see some 15mm up and running wish I had more time to sit in on a couple of the games. Looked like it went well... felt a little cramped however
Reminds me must have a word to the Cancon guys about that.....more space next time please. Feel free to a have your own word on that ....was good being together with the 28s though.

One more thing - I may have simply not unpacked correctly, but I cannot find my rulebook. Did anyone arrive home with an extra rulebook? If yes please drop me a PM (Scott Elaurant in Adelaide).
