Charge by Group and contact
Hi, when playing L&S we came to some strange points about charging. As the rules are the same as S&R I thought here is the right place.
The rules say, that all models are moved into contact ones the charging group reaches its target. In our case it was 3 Knights charging 12 spearmen in the back.
The knights could contact 2 Spearmen and the rest of the miniatures could not make contact due to a swamp (and the knights refused to charge through the mud an lose 1 die). We then moved th spearmen to maximise contact with the knights. This felt strange because the advantage of the knights was that the spearmen were caught at a bad point. Also some Spearmen had to move about 10cm through difficult terrain to reach combat.
Is this rule intended to do this? Or should in some case terrain be able to block maximum contact. I can think about fighting on a bridge, between houses, on a ridge or in a moat to cause similar problems.

Re: Charge by Group and contact
well bad terrain doesn't affect directly, I mean you can move with no penalty through to "prepare" the melee. On the other hand can condition the choiices (as you said the knights refused to charge through mud).
A different aspect is the impassable terrain like the wall of a house or the narrow of the bridge.
In the specific case how many spearmen could be placed in melee? Spearmen have the advantage to support from the rear of a friend, so a minimum of 6 spearmen could have probably fought (2 per Knight)

Re: Charge by Group and contact
Thank you very much for your reply. We thought that charging through difficult terrain would cost 1 die. But it says linear obstacles (which makes much more sense).
In the case above we moved the knigths into contact with 2 spearmen and then moved all other spearmen into contact with the knights, placing 2 into contact and two as support for those in contact. so each knight had 4 opponents.
Was moving the spearmen wrong?

Great, I think we got the idea and start playing it right. In about two weeks we will take a small table to a small convention (Attriticon) in south Germany (Ulm) and show it and hopefully have some participation games.

I have been to Attriticon in the past 2-3 times. The first time Impetus was showed outside Italy (at the time still a beta under playtest) was at Attriticon. Unfortunantly it is the same week end I run a show in San Marino.

Last year I was lucky to see a game of Impetus at Attriticon
Well, we will take some pictures and give you an impression (and for sure have new questions) so hopefully you don't miss too much by running your show. Both will be fun for sure.
