Re: assyrians??
I don't agree with Frazer giving the Guard infantry a VBU6 or A rating but it is only one unit.

Re: assyrians??
hi
i wanted to make the guard "different" from the Elites.
so it was a choice increase the VBU or the Class to A.
egyptians have A class guard and i took onboard the views that VBU 6 was perhaps too good so in my version 2 Assyrian Guards are VBU5 A class.
and as stated it is just the one unit.
and to think i was tempted with this assyrian darts thingy??...
final thoughts on the Kallapani??
CGL, or fast FL or mounted FL that can dismount??

Re: assyrians??
CGL that can dismount can work, let's give them a try.
I have made very few adjustments and already worked at the layout. I plan to release new and revised lists in around 4-5 days.

Re: assyrians??
I have a Middle Assyrian army and enjoy the Kallipani as fast FL but again it is only one unit and it is an unusual unit worth experimenting with.
Your second version still shows the Guard at VBU 6. VBU 5 A is not an issue for me.

Re: assyrians??
For CGL I have kept the VBU 6, but not D=A, something that I don't like for Heavy Chariots. Ok for Foot Guard.

Re: assyrians??
Chariots having various weapons is quite accurate as they were not only a platform for archers but also javelin, which were also very popular.
In Australia, due to the wider spread of the population, there are less players in the same size area as overseas and so more "open Comps" tend to be run. This gets as many people as possible to paly in a Comp. So non-historical match ups are more common.
Still to paint my Assyrians so haven't had a chance to play with them. Large Shield Inf was only used in Siege Warfare and was usually Guard. As long as the lists work against historical opponents then it should all pan out with the points costs.
Cheers,
Dennis

Re: assyrians??
personally i'm liking this list a lot. it's a vast improvement on the previous beta.
i'd note that assyrian cavalry is well-recognised as the first big break away from chariot warfare. other nations began to adopt cavalry tactics to counter the assyrians for example. so we wouldn't want to be downplaying its role too much.
that said, impetus is in my experience primarily an infantry game (long spear pretty much emasculates all mounted), so you'd have to distort its capabilities quite a bit to recreate its dominance in this period.
