Firing at Wagenburgs
Can someone help. A query arose when longbow A shot at a wagenburg. 2.2.3 says wagenburgs are Mounted Troops. 6.1.1 says you add or subtract to VBU dice from Firing Table modified from 6.1.3.
So if the Longbow VBU is 4 when shooting at close range do you add 2 dice from Firing Table and deduct 1 from modifiers for firing at wagenburgs. ie total of 5 dice ( on presumption no movement) or do you fire 3 dice with just a modifier for shooting at Wagenburgs?
The comment in 6.1.3.3 says shooting at wagenburgs is more difficult but the former above makes as easy as shooting at infantry!

Re: Firing at Wagenburgs
if you fire with a Longbow A at a Wageburg at Short Range (the nest option) you roll 4 (VBU)+2-1=5 dice.
Probably you moved to reach that range (not easy within a battle), but let's not count it, so 5 dice.
W will have a +1 in Cohesion test, but you have chance to disorder it, yes. The problem is to reach the short range without exposing you Archers as W usually keep a defensive position.

Firing at Wagenburgs
Thanks for the reply. Whilst I appreciate the clarification as mentioned previously this makes a wagenberg as vulnerable as infantry. Given shooting at this wooden protection should be harder to hit the men sheltering behind it might not it be better to class wagenbergs as infantry rather than mounted, as in most cases they will have no horses when they are deployed?

Re: Firing at Wagenburgs
well, Wagenburg proved to be effective against Heavy Cavalry. This allowed untrained and unprotected troops to defend. Hussites (in Warbook 4) will have a VBU of 5 or 6 (any). And with an extra 10pts you can fortify them. If fortified a W cannot move but counts as behind a fortification, so an additional -2 if shot at (-1 if by Artillery) and gets other modifiers in melee.

Hi
What happens if you place skirmishes in front of the wagons and your opponent fires using artillery. Would the skirmishes protect the wagons fronm being blown apart?

Re: Firing at Wagenburgs
if S is more than 4U from Artillery, then Artillery can ignore S.
