This showed up in Warbook 2 for Arabic Naffatun. They blow them selves up if they fail to cause a hit. As various weapons Bombs are always going to be at -1 and pretty piss poor.

Should Bomb be considered firearms for ignoring the +1 for short range cohesion tests from shooting? Throw me a bone here!

See what you mean only 1 or 2 dice so looks like roughly 4 times likely to die than cause enemy to take CT is that realistic? mmm not sure about that.
Getting back to your query the rules specify handgun which this isn't so don't think you can use that.
Think you may be on safer ground if you argue if target hit its just as dangerous as artillery so you may what to consider that option ie treat as hit by Art. which would as well as nullifying the +1 for close range also cancels the+1 if target is FP CP etc.
To make this quirky weapon worth adding to the army you could consider a -1 or -2 to the targets CT so in the unlikely event of scoring a hit it is more likely to cause real damage than just disorder.

I'm hoping Lorenzo will reclassify Bomb as an artillery weapon which would also negate any cover or fortification bonus.  Grenades and/or Greek Fire are pretty scary stuff and generally ignore armor and the entire point of bombs and grenades is to throw them over walls.

The Bomb rule would be a bit fairer to the firer if instead of being lost that they had to take a cohesion test as if shot themselves, so becoming disordered if they pass and worse if they fail.

I like your ideas about bombs. I guess the only compensation is that cause no VD loss.
