Impetus 2, Shieldwall Rule
What is the status of the 'Shieldwall' Rule now in Impetus 2 (Extra Impetus 2, page 29)?

Re: Impetus 2, Shieldwall Rule
Aurelius, you will no doubt know that Shieldwall was updated in Advanced Impetus. So I think we need to talk about Shieldwall provisions in AI and not EI2. Since most provisions of AI have been included in Impetus 2 but Shieldwall has not been I have assumed that Shieldwall is no longer operative. I think Closed Ranks is the substitute. We do need a clear indication of this from Lorenzo.

Re: Impetus 2, Shieldwall Rule
Thanks GC, I had forgotten that there had been an update in Advanced Impetus. Like you I assume that Shieldwall is now replaced with 'Closed Ranks', just looking for official confirmation. Maybe we will see a points reduction for those units listed with Shieldwall as a special ability...

Re: Impetus 2, Shieldwall Rule
Hey aurelius, this is a question my gaming group has been trying to figure out as well so thanks for posting this. Right now we are playing with sheildwall rule as written in the army book and I thought posting here might help start to spark a discussion on it. Our reasoning behind it is that lorenzo has already put out a 2 page amendment to help us take the list from the old rule set and use them within this one. It tells us what rules needs to be changed as well as what rules have be removed such as Jones of ark or the swiss advanced development.

Re: Impetus 2, Shieldwall Rule
As I mentioned above, Shieldwall in EI2 was superseded by its update in AI. Its absence in Impetus 2 (unlike many other features in AI) makes me think that it is no longer part of the game system.

Hey gaius I can see where your coming from, but in impetus 2 all we have for rules are the main rule book the EI1-5 and the 2 page amendment that tells you how to integrate EI into the new rules. Book 2 states that the Vikings have shieldwall and the rules for it. So if we are playing the rules as written Vikings have sheildwall.

Re: Impetus 2, Shieldwall Rule
This quote from Zippee on the thread Impetus 2 vs Advanced Impetus I think he gets right.
Well as AI and all the EI's massively pre-date even conceptual versions of Impetus II, I fail to see how they can be compatible.
You're essentially asking of the optional rules and clarifications from 1ed are officially part of 2ed which seems frankly bizarre to me.
Personally I wouldn't consider anything from AI applicable to Impetus II the only addendum information to date is the 'how to use 1ed lists with 2ed' pdf.
I agree a 100%. If Shieldwall was meant to be in Impetus 2 it would there. Its absence is by design. I could be wrong but having played Impetus a long time and seeing Lorenzo's answers on many topics I take the rules very literally including what is in and what is not.
