Reaction system of Baroque in Impetus?
I just had a very nice Impetus gamig weekend. Having not played Impetus for a while it was quite hard to again dive into all details of reactions on charges and movement. Since I read the Baroque rules I wondered, if it was possible to use the Baroque reaction system and dropping the opportunity status. Marking units which have reacted in the current round sounds way simpler with most options still working.
I am not sure if I miss an essential point here, so therefore I am asking you!
I hope the changes on the reaction system will be similar to Baroque in Impetus 2.

Re: Reaction system of Baroque in Impetus?
I does sound like Impetus 2 will move in the direction of Baroque but Lorenzo has in the past made it clear that Baroque and Impetus are different rule sets and while they share many of the same gaming systems they deal with different periods of history. So I guess we will ultimately have to wait and see.
Personally, I prefer the current system of opportunity in Impetus to the reaction system in Baroque. I must disagree with simplicity argument. Baroque seems more complicated to me than Impetus (opportunity is relatively simple to mark and use.) I suspect I am in the minority of commentators on this Forum.

Re: Reaction system of Baroque in Impetus?
I am of mixed opinion here. I like the Baroque Reaction system, but it often seems like an opportunity to have a free fire phase in your opponents turn at long range with no downside. I think reactions need to be limited to short or PB range only, then it would be good.

I get the feeling it will be more limited in reactions than Baroque but along the same vein.

Re: Reaction system of Baroque in Impetus?
stecal, the free oppurtunity fire is indeed a problem for earlier periods than Baroque. Good point! Your suggestions for a limit make sense.
Gaius please do not forget the options for reacting if you are not on opportunity especially when the zone of control is involved. For me it is always very hard to remember all the details and options. There are a lot of ifs in that sections. When it comes to opportunity I totally agree with you. That is ok. But it´s hard to really use opportunity in the right situation, not being disordered and have succeeded in the discipline roll. So it is somewhat hard to achieve and hence I see it rarely in games. For the defender starting on opportunity this is really easier.

Re: Reaction system of Baroque in Impetus?
Opportunity fire is going to be limited to only targeted units (eg an option to attempt to shoot back ) . I think as in Basic Imp 2 you may also get an attempt at 'Defensive Fire' before being contacted in a charge but this option could only be available to Ts.
Other than that... you'll have to wait till it's your turn to fire None of this is 'official' by the way
Some firing (missile types) will fall under PBW ....so a few more changes there also I'm guessing.
Opportunity Fire will be more limited and won't be as fluid as it is in Baroque.
