Cavalry vs squares
Squares are not tough enough. Even without impetus cavalry can frontally beat a square often enough to be a problem. Once the infantry retreat, they & anything in the way, are done in by the pursuit that does not suffer defensive fire or evasion/counter charges.
I would give squares a +3 in combat vs cavalry, a +2 in CTs vs cavalry, and instead of retreating they should stand in place and take another hit.
Cavalry in contact with FP that draw should be forced to retreat disordered.
Also, why is defensive fire only happening on a 4+, 5+ if disordered? This should be easy for a troops to do.
I think you forgot that in Baroque that B class reactions happen on a 4+ and with +2 FOR DEFENSIVE FIRE FOR ALL UNITS. I.E. defensive fire in BB should really be 2+, 3+ if disordered

Re: Cavalry vs squares
I think that squares cannot be compared to phalanges in fighting cavalry units.. And phalanx could benefit of 4 bonus dice when fighting against cavalry..
I think that squares could be better represented by giving the opportunity to make a defensive shot as PBW armed units that are charged by an enemy unit but taking into account VBU value.
So, what about give a defensive bonus of half the VBU value? I know that a squares have to be represented with a quarter of their normal strenght (when in line), but we could mean the abundance of dice as a proximity bonus for being at point blank.
Then, I think the the option concerning the possibility to force the cavalry to retreat when fighting (even in case of draw) against FT could be a good proposal.
