Army Booklets
Hi everybody
I thought I'd already posted this but it's disappeared
Basically a couple of years ago we did a booklet on the Parthians
see http://www.wargamevault.com/product/114065/The-Parthians-historical-background--army-lists--campaign-game for that booklet
Lorenzo did the layout, I wrote them. We would keep the layout simpler because it makes them easier for people to print out and stops the file size being so huge.
But, what booklets would anybody be interested in?
Jim

Re: Army Booklets
I quite enjoyed the Parthian book and the lists it contained. I guess the question is what lists are missing?
I'd like a book on "The GAP", that period of the Italian Wars from 1525 to 1555 that falls between Impetus and Baroque. Also on the Ottoman Turks in the 16th Century at their height of power.

Re: Army Booklets
If you look at the lists in the new edition of Basic Impetus you will see quite a few gaps that exist in the various volumes of Extra Impetus.
Volume One - the Age of Chariots
Volume Four - Rome and Italy
Volume Six - Rome and the End of the Republic
Volume Ten - Ancient China
Volume Eleven - the Steppe Peoples
But the biggest hole is the entire "Dark Age" period from The Fall of Rome (vol8) through Britannia (vol9), Steppe Peoples (vol11), Armies of Islam (vol12), The Age of Justinian (vol13) to the Age of Charlemagne (vol14)
Some (one?) of these were to be in the pending Volume 6 of Extra Impetus along with (I think) the Age of Chariots and something else(?). Beta lists exist for many of these and very handy they are too (though some of them are pretty old by now) and, of course, the new Basic Lists can be used as well, whichever version of (Basic) Impetus you use.
If someone would volunteer I would like to see the Rome and Italy volume period done with pre Hannibalic Carthaginians, Gauls, early Republican Romans, Etruscans, Samnites, Syracusans etc right up to Pyrrus.
Also given the popularity (here in UK at least) of Dark Age British/Arthurian/Germanic/Pictish/Irish armies and rules like Dux Britannium a pamphlet on those would be welcome also.

Italian Hill Tribes looks fun, esp if it includes a mini-campaign. Would have to finally decide between Heavy Javelin & Pilum, or just PBW for everyone to simplify.

Re: Army Booklets
I'd be a bit wary of pre-empting anything Lorenzo may be doing for Impetus 2. I know he initially was wedded to the idea of not superseding the Extra Impetus lists but I get the impression that may no longer be the case? Either way what status would these booklets have and how much oversight \ review would there be?

Re: Army Booklets
I think these booklets are not intended for lists to be used in competitions and can include, as done with the Parthians, more lists for the same armies. So I would say they have a different approach.
As for future Extras (but I don't want to hijack this thread, so please open a new one if you want to discuss about it) I come to conclusion that Impetus 2 will need revised lists and probably not in the previous form of Extra supplements but books of lists (possibly no more than 3) set in good order (with no campaigns etc)

Re: Army Booklets
I really like the idea of the Impetus Guides being an historical addition to the more tournament points-based format of the core lists (essential though they be and I'm heartened by Lorenzo's response above).
As to what else we'd like to see, I guess the list is almost endless. I also think it would be kind of nice to continue the same geo-political area, so maybe something on Judea (that should be dead easy for Jim ) or on the Greek states of the Black Sea and/or the other post Alexandrian kingdoms of the Pontic region - Bithynia, Kappadokia, etc (IG01 already touches on the area with Commagene). Actually this area from Achaemenid Conquest to Islamic Conquest would be a well overdue series of works!
Otherwise further afield I'd agree that nice contained booklets could easily be done for post-Roman Britannia.
Or 'Birth of the Republic' Italia.
Or even further afield and even a bit left field would be a pseudo historical one for Carthage in Zimbabwe - a la 'The Sunbird'. . .
