Light Chariots
Am wondering about Light Chariots.
From reading the comments on a previous thread it's looking like light chariots are (as they say in NZL), "a bit shit".
Anyone been able to successfully use them? I'm thinking that a 50% chance of disorder every time you manoeuvre in front of opponents who usually deploy missiles is the very definition of suboptimal.

A bit
They're ok if thats all your opponent has, and at least now they can evade. Still too "faffy" for my liking but your milage may vary

By faffy you mean faffing about?
I rue the thought of spending money and time painting up a mitanni army to discover it cannot move anyway bu straight forward and back.

We've fought a series of battles with 'Biblical' Armies as part of a BI campaign and chariots featured heavily. In contemporary games they're tough and a real menace. Up against more modern opponents then I can see them being outclassed.

Shoot and melee plus the ability to evade - what's not to like?
Take a bit of practice but they're actually a bunch of hard hitting fun when you get them right.

Re: Light Chariots
I regularly use Miceneans and Classical Indians. Chariots are not the "up to date" weapon (they were surpassed by standard cavalry after all) but they are a good shooting weapon. Various Weapons with a VBU 5 or 6 is not bad.
But of course they are not very good in manouvres, though now light chariots can evade.
Heavy chariots with VBU 6 are ok to create a gap. They can shoot and charge, but of course don't launch them frontally against pikes.

Re: Light Chariots
Last week I did a Game with my New Kingdom Egyptians. CGL are different from CL or CM in fact, but are interesting and challenging to play even in their own historical period. We made use of the "old rules". I don´t like the idea of a chariot evading on the spur of the moment, but...anyhow, now their´re easier to play
btw: The "stationary-rule" does not longer exist ? No bonus if shooting at a stationary CGL ? Does it mean, a CGL do start the game "in movement" ?

Re: Light Chariots
The Egyptian chariots were very maneuverable and should be able to evade easily. CGL are really the equivalent of CM not CL. I do find that not being able to obique move or move sideways is a bit of a challeng at time. Still, chariots are cheaper and can fire 360 so are great platforms for duking it up.
Another feature of chariots in Impetus is that they cannot rally from command. If you fail to rally them at the beginning of the turn your beat.

no stationary rule. The chariots move like other troops, aside the fact that they need 2 phases to wheel

Re: Light Chariots
this rule is related to the old stationary concept as the command rally need the unit to be... stationary.
