Looking for a clarification on the Reaction rule. I've not played a game through yet, so the answer may well become clear after a game. Also I'm probably confusing and carrying over ideas from Impetus, where if you shoot on opportunity as the inactive player, you do not get to shoot during your own activation later in the turn. Is it the same in Baroque? So in Baroque if one of your commands has not yet been activated, but one of its units has Reacted with an opportunity fire and is thus marked as having Reacted, can it still shoot during its own activation?

Yes it can is the short answer.

To be clear: a unit shooting on reaction can also shoot on its activation (and vice versa)

Remember that attempting to react counts as your attempt for the turn, succeed or fail. Also opportunity shooting is much less likely to be successfully implemented than defensive shooting, so mostly you hold for the defensive.

Defensive fire occurs prior to melee so makes the consideration moot.

Also bear in mind that you have one "First Volley" with most musket/arquebus troops, once its gone its gone. As are point blank pistols.

We had a good work through of this when reiters charged a pair of guns supported by infantry, so we had failed opportunity charges (opposing reiters), successful opportunity fire (pike & musket), successful defensive fire (guns) - we were then about to work through pistols at contact when we realised that the guns were swept away on contact - 4VD down just like that!

Don't rely on guns - they're bloody rubbish! Smile

Thanks Zippee, that makes sense. Especially the detail of the Defensive Fire option and the First shot advantage. Must play a game!

No worries,
It took us a while to realise that the main factors influencing which reactions to go for were the differences in the chance of it coming off, not the effect of the reaction.

For instance on Thursday we had GA out-charged by RE because the GA messed about moving to set up "the perfect charge" rather than belting on in.

As a consequence the opposing RE took the risk of attempting to opportunity charge the move and caught several units of GA on the hop, moving not charging so sans impetus bonus, it broke the Royalist cavalry wing.

I think there were about 5 or 6 separate reactions in that one command's activation.

You really have to watch the distance at which things can potentially react - the additional charge bonus table can add considerable distance (and it depends on unit type).
