Reaction Query

Finally getting round to reading V2 properly, as I'm getting geared-up now Warbook 2 is out.

Page 22 - Actions and Reactions, the bullet point on Shooting. Does the "if in Zoc" apply to both reaction options, or just to the Opp.Charge? I had assumed it applies to both, but reading 6.5 which states " can attempt to fire back if targeted by direct fire" I'm not sure as any reference to Zoc is missing

I assumed just the opposite, that it only applies to opp. charge. Let's see what others say.

Think I'm inclined to agree with you now kenntak, but that seems to mean that any time you shoot you risk being shot back at, as long as you're in the target unit's own field of fire and then pass their discipline test. How has that played out for you in practice?

I like it because it seems realistic. The need to pass a discipline test, the -1/-2 shooting modifier for S and CL, and the -1 modifier for reaction fire does tone it down nicely.

Yes good points, and adds to the more cut and thrust feel of impetus compared with true igo-ugo games. The reaction rules seem the most complex part of the game but I guess in practice really contribute to the feel of the game.

The Charge option is only if the shooting occurs within the ZOC of the target unit.

Opportunity Fire is a powerful response if the inactive side gets lucky and makes his reaction rolls. One guy plays Early Persians and his large T unit of A class Immortals I never engage in missile fire with. Usually has an attached commander so he is firing back at 2-6 on DT. Too risky.

Gaius, does that guy buy 1-3 storm of arrows tactical cards as well?

No, we stopped using the cards. We found too many problems with them. Good idea in concept but in implementation we didn't like them.
