General Killed In Melee Query
Hi all,
Query after today's game regarding what happens when a General is killed.
A (Reliable) General was killed in melee and removed. His death had no effect upon his command. No General figure was used as a replacement.
Apart from losing bonuses we couldn't find anything in the rules to tell us what happens as regards activation after his removal.
We counted all units as Out of Command for the rest of the game. Seems to make sense.
When rolling for initiative we decided that the reference to losing all bonuses meant that it might suggest that the General-less Command should roll as Incompetant (LG0), with a double scored on the initiative meaning a failure to activate that turn.
Was that right? Or, is there a section we've missed?
Cheers,
Kev

Re: General Killed In Melee Query
I think it's just the loss of his active command ability - joining units and rolling off disorder, etc.
And the loss of any initiative bonus and command range, etc.
To be honest in Baroque that is quite crippling enough.
I wouldn't class the command as incompetent all of a sudden, it continues doing what it was doing but without that figurehead.

Re: General Killed In Melee Query
It definitely is crippling enough as you say. Essentially I lost the game, largely as a result of Jack throwing two double sixes for two of his commands and me losing a General.
I survived long enough and had a later surge so we were tied 29 all, with 33 for the Parliamentarians and 35 for the Royalists, to lose.
Two commands broke. Jack's passed discipline tests for his two units of Gallopers and so fought on.
I lost a command, rolled for a P&M and a Trotter and failed resulting in a 29-39 loss.
It couldv'e so easily been a 29-41 to me.

He now leads 6-5 against me, with me 2-0 against others.

Loser!
The only time I roll double sixes is for CT's - just as effective for my opponent though (if not more so actually).

Re: General Killed In Melee Query
Little swine rolled four dice yesterday in attack with four sixes as a result. I needed to roll a two, rolled a six. Sigh.
However, I mostly kept in the game by rolling lots of 1's for cohesion. Otherwise the game might have lasted an hour.

Re: General Killed In Melee Query
Zipp would you use a Commander base on the table?
If so where would you put it? Presumably as close to the position of the original one lost, even if there's obviously no unit there.
Presumably, if so, it would go on tabla at the end of all the players turns?

Hmm,
why would I do that?
What purpose does it serve?
Am I missing something obvious?
