Loss of a commander question Empty Loss of a commander question

We have never been able to figure out what this modifier means:

" - sum of the other Commander's leaderships"

who's "other" commanders? Yours? just enemy commanders?, all of them on the table or just the ones in that combat?

Your other commanders wherever they are.

You could have three commands: an expert, a fair and a poor. Let's say you lose the poor and have to test. The expert is three, the fair is two so take off five (5).

Loss of a commander question Empty Re: Loss of a commander question

Post by Gaius Cassius Thu Mar 17, 2016 8:43 pm

It has taken our group several years to get to like the Commander Loss Table but in the end we think it works well.

Here is my best guess at some of the rational.

1. Command Structure. Represents how direct and immediate the Commander has to act to get his unit to move and fight. Poor Command Structure means he is leading from the front. Good Command Structure means he is leading from the back. Less chance of getting killed.

2. Losses represent how severe the melee was.

3. Mounted makes him less likely to get caught up in a bad scrum.

4. Quality of the commander seems to reflect the importance of the Commander to the command and army.

The relationship between the Effect and number of Commanders isn't as obvious to me but it seems to work well.

That's a fair rationale, Gaius, particularly the link between 1 and 4.

Loss of a commander question Empty Re: Loss of a commander question

I've always thought the Command Structure modifier to represent how much support a Commander may have - ie does he have to do everything himself, or be seen to leading, or does he have a reliable staff and an army used to receiving and following transmitted orders,
