Re: Newbie queries
Movement to the rear is 5.4.3 - Movement to the rear is automatic and ends in disorder unless you are Skirmishers or Light Cav
About turn is covered by 5.4.5 - it requires a discipline test be passed by a Unit in good order and at the completion of the about turn the Unit is in Disorder.

Re: Newbie queries
Thanks Granicus, we played spot on then.
Just FWIW.. why is turning about so hard?
Was it that bad? (in comparison to moving backwards, which units can do quite well..)

My guess is that your battle formation has your men in allocated positions to keep those of highest skill and experience toward the front in order to have your unit at best effectiveness. If you about turn they are then at the rear and you have to reorganise your formation to get them back to the front whereas simply moving backward doesn't involve anything beyond just walking backwards.
Can't think of anything more significant than that, maybe Lorenzo will give us an insight into his thinking.

Advanced Impetus has amended 5.4.3 to include CM and CGL. I noticed in a few responses lately GG that you've forgotten to take into account AI.

Re: Newbie queries
That's a fair point GC, it is actually a considered action in response to a couple of people playing "core" rules, not Advanced.
Thinking about it I (possibly all of us) should answer both in terms of core rules and also advanced Impetus.
