Converting lists from other systems?

I was wondering if there are any guidelines for converting army lists from other systems? I have a pile of the army list books from Field of Glory:AM that may go to waste switching to Impetus...

One crude rule of thumb to get the right sort of numbers is to work using the base sizes. An Impetus sabot base will hold four DBx sized bases. So divide the number of bases on the lists by four to get Impetus bases

What is trickier is to get the VBU and suchlike right. Here you want balance. It's useful to look at various Impetus lists to see what similar troop types convert as

I thought of doing this with my DBM Middle earth lists and was going to post here to seek peoples views. I guess as a rule of thumb its perfect and as long as both players lists are created the same way AND the VBU balance is correct then there should be little problem.
