Justinian byzantines at 350
I hope to do a Justinian byzantine army later this year. We'll see if it comes to pass. I'm pretty new to Impetus. I'm wondering from those of you with more experience, how would you construct an army at 350 with the Justinian Byzantines? They are interesting as a list because of the choices you need to make. (Interesting as an army because of reading Procopius)
Do you minimize the skutatoi or try to take a lot of them?
Do you take any other infantry? If so as light foot or as skirmishers?
How do you decide how to take the cavalry - as lights or mediums that shoot better or mediums that impact better?
Any other thoughts?

Re: Justinian byzantines at 350
We refought the battle of Daras using Impetus. The Byzantine cavalry were largely CL, 4/1, and the centre, thrown forward, was skutatoi with a back rank of archers.
The Byzantines won the refights, their cavalry were able to shoot it out with Sassanids, especially as the Sassanids had to worry about shooting down the Skutatoi as well.

Re: Justinian byzantines at 350
Thanks.
I guess I don't really know the first thing about putting together a list, but here's what I came up with.
Good command (20)
2xFair generals (40)
2XSkutatoi FP/T blocks (62)
2xBoukellarioi (74)
4xKavallarioi (CL, VBU 3) (100)
2xKavallarioi (CL, VBU 4) (54)
What kind of feedback do you have on that?

I personally would take the Byzantine cavalry as CM. The 3/1 CL aren't great value and you get stuck with a lot of them to get the 4/1 CL. Use the Moor and Hun units as CL and go with the CM 6/2. 4/1 FL armed with javelin are very useful types plus the German CP which is powerful and cheap.
