Melee - Importance of Controlling Order of Attacks
This was originally posted on the WhatsApp Impetus group. I thought it would be useful to post it here, in modified form.
Determining your order of attacks in melee is crucial to success. Take a look at the following diagrams:
In the first diagram, if the blue unit on the far right side wins the melee, it can pursue, whether pursuit is mandatory or voluntary.
In the second diagram, if the blue unit on the far left wins the melee, it cannot pursue because there is a red unit in its path—it could not even begin to move. However, the blue unit would be a support unit for the friendly unit to its right, when that latter unit fights its melee.
Finally, in the third diagram, if the red unit retreats, the winning blue unit can roll to pursue. It could then charge the enemy red unit to the right of the retreating red unit. This would activate a new melee. The friendly blue unit to the right would be the main unit, and the pursuing unit would be the support unit in that new melee.
The moral of the story is that when attacking, careful consideration must be given to the order of attacks, including, the possible ramifications of a successful or unsuccessful attack.

Indeed. Other question is to figure ou which unit was the best probability to produce a cascade of favorable events.

That's a good point Joao. It's an intriguing aspect of the game.
