Pursuit order of combat

Side A activates a command and charges with a unit which loses and retreats the pursuit by 2 units generates 2 new melees. As we normally allow the pursuing units to choose order of combat when there is more than one but someone mentioned shouldn't it be the active players choice even if he retreated. We said no its the pursuers choice but can't see anywhere in rules to back my opinion up. How do you all play this?

We go with the active player chooses the melee order even in pursuits. Oddly enough this scenario doesn't happen as often as one thinks. It would require first that the defender has a main and support unit in the melee. Usually one or both of the defending units is tied up in other melees or fails to contact in the pursuit.

We would complete the melee involving the pursuer that was the main combatant first, the support unit would be resolved second.

Not that it comes up very often - or is particularly critical when it does but if it matters, then main unit takes precedence.

Yes agree not as common as you might think and when it does usually no big deal. Just so happened in our game last night the order was significant. From the above have 3 different approches so looks like not covered in rules so up to us to decide.
