New types of units in Warbook 1
I notice that there are new some hybrid unit types in Warbook 1 but that there are no directions on how they function. Older hybrid types need supporting rules since the Impetus 1 lists will be coming to an end.
So for instance we see large units of non impetuous FL. Can these units evade? Can large T units evade? I would think that no large unit should be able to evade but there is no rule to say they cannot. Whatever the ruling is I think it should be make explicit.
Also, when there is a large unit of the combination of FL/T how do they move through terrain. Is it like the FL/T combinations in EI5 that are found in the armies of the Far East? What happens when the back T unit is lost? Does the FL front unit return to functioning like a FL unit? This needs clarification.
In the Early Republican Roman list there is a combination
Hastati and Principes FP 5/4 2 B 3/1 Pilum/Long Spear
How does Pilum/Long Spear work?
There are probably other combinations that need a bit of clarification and guidance.

Re: New types of units in Warbook 1
Some good questions.
Don't think any large unit should be able to evade I agree, but it's not in writing anywhere.
Large units of combined arms like FL & T's are restricted by all constraints to both troop types eg Large unit of FL+T moving through Difficult ground move 1H+D.....can't have your cake and eat it. Combined large unit restrictions should remain for the rest of the game even when rear unit is lost in my opinion. These sort of units are a 'representation' after all ....there was no clear defined line like we have on a war-games table.
Hastatii and Principes ? Same troop type aren't they ?? ...almost. You mean Triarii with the long spear ? Just going off he top of my head here (no list or rules in front of me)
I'd guess it would be like contacting both troop types in a combined melee ?? Long spear denies Imp bonus for Cavalry but still get their pilum dice before contact ? ...then depth bonus in melee of course. Nasty combination !
Took on Rep Roman's this week....did not end up well

Just looked at the army list for Early Rep . You're right Hastatii can have Long Spear ....

I totally agree with what you have written. It simply needs to codified by Lorenzo (assuming he agrees.)

Yes these new types of unit will require clarification. Re tartys comments on early republican romans the list notes seem to ditch the spears if forming large units both will be pilum. Only if using single units half will be pilum and half spear.

Regarding the question whether large units can evade, does everyone allow it? The rules do not prohibit it.

Re: New types of units in Warbook 1
1) Large Units cannot evade
2) FL+T move in terrain like the worst (T)
Once T is lost it could make sens that FL keeps the same penalty but I see probably a complication. Now FL has not the keep a formation to coordinate with T so I would allow more freedom and let it perform like all FL.
3) Legionaries in LU with both Pilum and Long Spear can combine the advantages of both. Pilum shooting and no impetus for cavalry charging them.
