Warbook I - Kallapani
Working my way through the Warbook,
mostly satisfied thus far but not wholly sure I'm comfortable with the treatment of kallapani.
Now for sure they're a bit of an enigma but the treatment of them here does seem a bit unusual
Middle Assyrian treat them as FL 4/0 Various
Neo-Elamite as T 4/1 Shortbow B
Neo-Assyrian as FL 4/1 Various
Sargonid Assyrian as FL 4/1 Various
Now I'm happy enough with the Elamite being more shooty than the Assyrian but I'm rather dubious about giving them an impetus value thus allowing them to charge. And am highly puzzled why the Mid-Assyrian would be denied that option - can't work out the rationale.
To my mind kallapani were really a transport function not a weapon platform, I think I'd have been happier with some form of enhanced movement or deployment flexibility but here they are stuck moving at infantry speed.
So we have expensive inferior archers with shortbow B but decent VBU for Elam and in Assyrian service a sort of lumbering inferior chariot that moves like FL.
All a bit weird.
Anyone else have any thoughts or opinions - I mean they only appear in 4 lists so its hardly a major problem and not a hill I'm going to die for but it does seem a bit odd.
Actually I think it might be 5 lists because I'm fairly sure the Sea People migrant families are there to represent the wagons and carts so prominent in art - this time FP 3/1 various.

Well it's not about list composition or numbers just the troop type stat block. So you can discuss Warbook without having a copy and still feel part of the in-crowd. See how generous I am

You're so good to me Zippee!
I agree with your points on the Kallipani. I like how they were represented in the Beta List for the Middle Assyrians. In Impetus 2 it seems to me that they could have been made FL that moves like CGL but with inferior VBU (ie. 4 instead of 5.) Making them FL doesn't make them very useful and since Impetus 2 I have never used my Kallipani.

Re: Warbook I - Kallapani
Yeah the beta lists had them with a movement of 10 like CGL I could accept that, as you gained movement for inferior shooting.
Now we have lost the movement but retained the Various weaponry (except Elam)
FL jav perform just as well, shoot better, can move and shoot without penalty and cost the same.
I'd prefer them I think as transported FL - enhanced movement (10 is fine) but once engaged, the carts 'disappear' and they become FL (T for Elam).

All I know is that I have a lovely little model diorama that I will not likely use again because the Kallipani are totally useless. FL moves to slow, Various Weapons stinks, and they don't have impetus. Why bother.
