Re: Shooting allowed ?
The answer is no. The guidelines that determine visibility cannot cross. The rules don't state this explicitly but based on several Forum conversations that is my understanding. So the following from the old Forum as given by Cyrus the Average (then PilGrim.) I believe that has been confirmed by Lorenzo in other Forum conversations.
What we have are three separate tests [for firing]
1. Arc of fire - 45 degrees from the front of the firing unit to any point on the target base
2. Visibility - uninterrupted lines drawn from front corners of the firer to two target base corners - there is an unwritten but confirmed assertion that these lines cannot cross each other
3. Range measurement is from centre of firing base front edge to the middle of the closest base edge of the target - here there is (surprisingly) no requirement to "see" either the target edge or the range measuring point. This probably needs a Lorenzo clarification. Personally if asked I would say you need to see the aiming point to use it, and I thought it was a moot point anyway as target priorities would kick in and would make sure you fired on whichever unit was screening your intended target, but that wouldn't work if the screen was terrain, so at that point my brain went into meltdown

Re: Shooting allowed ?
no crossing
Somewhere there should be the concept that the lines form and "area" and that no obstacle should be in that area.

Re: Shooting allowed ?
Indeed, the English rules do say the lines must be unobstructed and it took some time for us to confirm that this meant not crossing each other.
Typically English language rules don't use that language structure, we'd normally only think of a hypothetical line as being obstructed by something on the table not another hypothetical line.
It's an idiom thing.
You have to rid yourself of some English language structures when reading translated works - it's our problem really not the authors
