Raphia in 15mm
Inspired by Simon Miller, of Big Red Bat Blog fame, last year I decided to collect both sides to refight the successor battle of Raphia between the Seleucids and the Ptolomys.
It is a large undertaking with nearly 1500 figures and 34 elephants. I have used Xyston figures for all of the collectrion.
There are plenty of work in progress pictures on my blog

Re: Raphia in 15mm
Hah, we're doing similar things
Although my elephant total only comes to 24!
I went with a big purchase from last year's FIB kickstarter and am slowly making progress - halted by moving house, but starting again now.
Agema units finished
Agema - FP All - 00 by Zippee Jerred, on Flickr
Agema - FP01 - 01 by Zippee Jerred, on Flickr
Agema - FP02 - 01 by Zippee Jerred, on Flickr
Only another 384 phalangites to go

Zippee,
Very Agema too!
I love the war and Empire figures I have about 600 Punic Wars Romans plus Gauls from their first Kickstarter, a large Sassanid Persian army from their second and have pledged for their third and will buy Normans, Vikings and Anglo-Saxon.
The only reason I went with Xyston is that I already had hundreds of their figures and my Greeks and Persians are Xyston.
I love the elephants! Two beasts to a base look awsome and I love large collections lol

Re: Raphia in 15mm
I have plenty of Xyston too but the changes in size across ranges has turned me off, and you can't beat the price of FIB at the reduced cost Kickstarter rates
And I hate drilling the Xyston metal - it seems super hard.

Zippee,
I agree totally with the Xyston argument. But I had too much metal and time invested to start over again.
If FIB had been around before.....
Would you be interested in offloading your Xyston?

Re: Raphia in 15mm
Hi Frostie,
Fortunately all my Xystons tribal Thracian, therefore the difference in manufacturer is acceptable. Although they do rather dwarf my poor old Essex Gauls and Galatians
I had been thinking about a hoplite army from Xyston for some time but fortunately I got to see a friend's Romans beforehand and noted the change in size.
That coupled with the pain of drilling 192 Thracian fists rather put me off the thought.

I have hundreds of hoplites and to be fair they are pretty good and not the larger ones like the Romans.
But I feel your pain about drilling the hands lol

Re: Raphia in 15mm
It was more that any company who can allow that sort of arbitrary change in size between ranges can't really be trusted to ensure that later editions to a range were compatible either. A shame because the figures are great and the variety unmatched.
Yeah the FIB phalangites need drilling but they're relatively easy to drill - why the Xyston syuff has to be so damn hard and solid - no attempt at an open hand - is beyond me. And the separate shields just add the final nail, I'm always having re-assemble my Pahplagonians

Re: Raphia in 15mm
Well the last of the painted rank and file troops have been added to blog. Like most of the figures they need basing but that is a home project, as I paint mainly while i am overseas with work.
I will add pictures once the basing is in progress.

Re: Raphia in 15mm
Better than me, I've managed half of mine - the pantodapoi types, a mere 12 units. Another 12 units of citizen type to go, sigh!
