Pilum, PBW and Impetus
I think one of the changes in BI2 over the original Impetus game is to have Pikes, Long Spears and Polearms reduce the impetus bonus of a charger to a maximum of two. Should this also be extended to being hit by pilum and PBW as well? It doesn't seem unreasonable to me that being showered by masses of heavy javelins would slow anyone down I might even go so far as to say it could nullify all impetus for the charger that round? (my preferred outcome at the moment).
As failing a cohesion test would be difficult just being hit would suffice in impetus being reduced or lost. As a one shot weapon in the game it would also reflect its other possible effect - the old cliche of bent pila in shields and stuck in horses springs to mind when thinking about this, not just causing casualties and disorder but also slowing a charge right down.
Cheers

The rule also covers things like francisca for the Franks and irregular infantry types with PBW like Spanish Scutarii. You would have to give them the chance of nullifying or reducing impetus as well as Roman pilum. Might be a stretch ??

Re: Pilum, PBW and Impetus
Good question - PBW do get less dice so that makes pilum more likely to be effective but I guess it would have to apply. I just think that these weapons are under-represented in the rules by having one shot only mainly just causing disorder (there could be exceptions of course) - from what I've read their effect could be devastating against chargers. They must have been good for Legionaries to have to carry them around for centuries! Unfortunately I'm not able to play at the moment but will do some testing when I can. Cheers

in BI2 they don't reduce impetus but I will take this a suggestion to consider for Impetus 2
