Dont have the rules, but daggers were used as a "can opener" vs armored knights when they got dismounted by polearms.
They jammed them between the gaps in the armor, and bust through chainmail .. exit stage left "the gentleman knight"

I'm focussed on the second edition and I may miss some differences with edition 1 (I promise to complete the translation of edition 2 as soon as I release Basic Impetus 2), but a dagger is better than nothing, so in the second edition (at least) a man with a dagger can re-roll a die when in melee with a man with nothing
