The World-Tree Project: an online archive of Viking material
This is your chance to help build a large digital archive about Vikings, to help people of all ages, from kids to centenarians, and of all abilities and levels of interest to learn more about the Vikings.
The World-Tree Project is based at UCC, Ireland, and is building an online digital archive of Viking-related material with international scope. The site is intended to be a resource for everyone, so that anyone can find something of interest and learn more about the Vikings, or find out where to learn more. It will be a fantastic resource for research and study, and we have great plans for things we can do with the material received to make it more accessible and useful to people. However, it relies on the generosity of the public to submit items of interest.
The project is looking for people to upload photos of re-enactors and their kit, of Viking artefacts they have seen and monuments they have visited. They can link to reports on blogs or other sites about Viking-related events they have attended, or they could just upload the contents of their ‘Vikings’ bookmark list. Everything is useful and of interest, because the project is interested not only in historical Vikings but also modern reception of the Vikings. Anyone that is interested can find out more by visiting www.worldtreeproject.org where they can see what sort of things have already been uploaded.
We can't promise undying fame or a life celebrated in skaldic verse for people that do participate, but they will have our gratitude. And we might try the skaldic verse bit later if people are particularly prolific in contributing items!
