OK Gents, time to get organised for 2015
Who is running what, and where?
I remember Alan volunteered to do York, which leaves us a few other venues that will be available. I would guess Cardiff is still on, and Triples and Derby. Do we have organisers for these? It would also seem a good idea to get something in Scotland now independence has been postponed, and something in the South of England.
Volunteers and suggestions here please
Cheers

Re: UK Events 2015
Hi sorry delay in replying as think this is an important post and for those of us in the UK who like attending the competitions will be great to be ahead of the game.
Two of the Midlands based competitions are:
Sheffield 'Triples' 16 / 17 May
Donnington 'Derby' 3 / 4 October
I don't mind to run the Donnington 'Derby' as am relatively local, but would highlight I can only attend on the one day so would need another volunteer for the Sunday.
The event this year was great but think everyone thought it would be good to go back to the single day OPEN 25mm 3x game Sat. main competition format and have the Sunday as a separate option? There are options for the Sunday as you could have a more themed day with just two games allowing more time to look around the show.
Anyway the fine detail can come later........ unfortunately think will be busy on the Sheffield event weekend.
Cheers Jez

Re: UK Events 2015
i hold my hands up for Derby
i think i planted the seed for having a two 28mm tournament. i misread the situation, it wasnt that we didn't like 15mm gaming..it was that we didn't like Sundays.
i think we should have a 28mm game on the Saturday and Sunday can be 15mm if anyone is interested.
gaming on both days was one reason our Italian friends found an excuse not to come.
as for a non independent Scotland. i am going to try something different..a mini league.
again in scotland we have all found excuses not to play...i cant make a sunday..i cant make that sunday..i am only allowed out for 3 hours...etc etc.
so i thought a mini league play four games each over a few months...you play your opponent when and where you can arrange it. i will do all the paper work. hope to get about 12 -16 jocks at Falkirk and Dunfermline involved.

Re: UK Events 2015
Fraser - what are the Scottish tournament days? Are any potentially planned? If there are some dates floating around in advance it is good to know in advance.
Also any thoughts from the Welsh contingent on tournaments? I have not been to these yet but heard they are excellent so want to make the effort this year.
Cheers Jez

Re: UK Events 2015
hi Jez
at the moment it is little more than just an idea in my wee heid.
there have been 16 players from scotland over the last few years that have played in the IWL. but this year we managed 7? at one outing and 8..just and no more at the other. and the third competition wasn't even held.
basically if i can have 12 to 16 names commit to a single tournament, but then play that tournament over a few weekends or months rather than all three games in one day.
this is probably just another good idea that wont happen...but hey ho

Re: UK Events 2015
I am up for this Frazer - I suggest a post on the FDWC forum.
I would try and keep the timescale tight - weeks rather than months, or there is a risk it won't complete

Re: UK Events 2015
We've "lost" York - or rather Alan had planned to run it but now can't, and I'm not aware of any other volunteers?

Re: UK Events 2015
Hi - I just spotted this thread.
I have got the ball rolling regards Derby and am in contact with the show organisers.
I am more than happy to hand this over to Jez.
Better to have someone local where possible.
Hence me doing Cardiff for the 4th time! LOL
Jez - can you email me at ross@figurepainting.co.uk so we can work things out.
Comments above seem to agree with me in that it should be 1 day, 28mm, 3 games. Some prefer 300 points, some 350 points.
For the record, Cardiff is April 4th and we are hoping to do 4 rounds.
For other tournaments I would recommend NOT holding them at shows. It means paying admission for a show that we then have to miss and creates various problems with parking etc.
The one in Benson worked great in a small hall and our tournaments are fine in a wargaming shop.
So how about keen players just putting on tournaments at somewhere local - like a pub!! This way we can get the programme of events back up to strength.
One more for the diary will be the Cardiff "Classic" which as usual will be end of summer. We always come up with a new format for this one. Last year this was decided by a chat at the end of the Wales Open with all those that entered and we will probably do the same this year and post details later in the year.
Very democratic bunch us welsh

Re: UK Events 2015
I have been asked by my wargaming club to move Dragons Roar from April 4th to 11th.
Is that going to cause a problem for anyone attending on the 4th?

Re: UK Events 2015
Hi All
Confirmed that Dragons Roar (Wales Open) will now be on 11th April (not 4th)
Avoids Easter weekend as well.
Sorry for any inconvenience
