300 pt Republican Roman Army suggestions

I am looking at building up a 300 point Republican Roman army and whilst I have been trawling through the various army lists in Basic Impetus, Extra Impetus 2 and have ordered War Book 1, I would be keen to understand what others have done.

My current thoughts are as follows:
Good command structure (20 pts)
Expert commander (30 pts)
3 legions each comprising the following: 1 x Velites (S) base, 1 x Hastatii (FP) base, 1 x Principes (FP) base and 1 x Roman Cavalry (CM) base (87 pts each).
Total = 297 pts

It seems a reasonable option, more focussed on the legionaries. As an alternative you can drop one legion in favour of a more variety of troops, as Italian cavalry or Numidian CL.
