Hello all, I'm the "New" guy!
Hi all!
Just got my copy of Impetus 2 and look forward to it. I'll be the guy with lot's of "dumb" questions....
I'm a long time gamer but never really played much of what I called "Ancients", simply because most of the rules were just not my cup of tea or seemed to complicated. I did play Tactica back in the day and enjoyed it, but WWII, Napoleonics, Feudal Japan, Star-ship Battles (Full thrust), ACW, and many others just had my interest. It wasn't until on of the groups I play with got into SAGA and hooked me into it did I start gaming in "Ancients" again.
I must confess that painting / building is my first love and playing is more a justification and a way to show off my figures. SAGA is a fine system BUT many times I yearn for a more traditional set of rules that allow for bigger battles and is not so nuanced as SAGA. I looked at Swordpoint, and Hail Caesar but the basing systems in both are problematic and I don't like casualty removal (that's for me a thing of the past). Modern miniatures games need to fit into modern life, more streamlined to play faster, easier, and simply. The time people used to have is just not the same.
I was immediately drawn to Impetus's ignoring of actual figure strength on the base and that this base simply represents this type and strength of troops. I wanted a set of rules that will allow us to use our individually mounted SAGA forces to simply be used on correct size movement bases and Impetus seems to allow this.
Well today my copy of Impetus arrived (also the army list2) and I hope it will allow us to fight those larger battles. Is there any thought on Fantasy army's?

Welcome aboard Bill. Glad to have you on the Forum. Please ask your questions. There are several of us who like 101 questions because they cause us to take another careful look at the rules.
Interestingly, I have been working on some LoTR lists for Impetus. I have found the Basic Impetus Fantasy supplement useful in putting these lists together.

Hi There
Welcome aboard, I am still fairly new to Impetus but enjoy how it is different to Hail Ceasar, Lart and other Ancient games so allows us to play with same figs but get a different gaming experience.
Of course that was the plan and we were going to use our DBA figures but ended up enjoying enough to get a whole new 6mm set of forces to play it with.
Hope you enjoy

How well does Impetus work for more than two players and are there any rules our a guide covering activation's?

Why don't you post that on the Rules section so others can follow the discussion?

Hi all,
Not yet played a game/lock down getting in the way, but am converting two armies over to this system.
I would like to know if there is going to be an official list for early Franks,as I have a WAB army I'd like to use again?
Thanks.

Yes, there will be an official list, on Warbook 2 (focussed on fall of Rome and Dark Age)
