Retreat and evasion
Hi All
We are six games in so far from expert and have a few queries.
Evasion, if a unit passes a test to evade it gets to make a full move. Does it move backwards facing enemy or turn first then move.
We had some horse archers charged by foot and ruled they turned round and moved, they subsequently got charged in rear to which they could not react as the enemy never entered their ZOC. This made sense but just wanted to check.
In another game a unit retreated after a combat, they had room to start their move but ended up backing into the front of another enemy unit. Next turn a combat was fought with penalties for fighting with a unit in the rear. Again this made sense but wanted to make sure we had not missed anything.
Starting to get there, or so we think.
Now we realise a second unit in contact can add half its attacks to the main combat and give +1 d6 to main unit for support as well combats are getting brutal.
Rome may have to get used to being shot at as non of us are keen to close.

Re: Retreat and evasion
Units that evade retain their original facing. So in your example the CL should have been facing the infantry at the end of the evade move. No rear attack.
With respect to the unit backing into an enemy unit it is explained I think clearly in 7.7.2. The unit in question, if forced to retreat, cannot move and is destroyed. That is even true if the unit backed into the rear of the enemy unit (which would mean that enemy unit could fight.)
