Evasion question
Hi
A friend and I played a 500pt game today which went well. However there was one event where we had different rule interruptions on what happens when evading. I know this question has been asked before but I'm still a little unsure as to what is the correct action here.
Do you get to attempt to evade if the unit that is charging starts just outside the target unit's frontal projected lines.
the diagram on page 33 seems to suggest you do while the charging rules 5.7 suggest that you must state your reaction after the charge is declared but before movement takes place
which is correct here.

Re: Evasion question
Think some one asked the same question where the text seems different to diagram. Until Lorenzo answers i am going with the diagram on the basis that they clarify any ambiguity in the text regads eric

Re: Evasion question
The way we play this one is to anticipate the move. If the movement can be seen not to enter the straight ahead parallel at any point then evasion is not allowed. If it can be seen that the movement will cross the continuation of the front at any point then evasion is allowed. The evasion decision is made before any movement, on the basis of the predicted track.
This is the way it was played in Impetus 1, and I assume that Impetus 2 would be the same. However the text is a little ambiguous on this point, so I may be wrong.

Re: Evasion question
I confirm that is how Aurelius says, same as Impetus 1.

Re: Evasion question
Learn something new. We've been playing evasion wrong since V1 then. A Frontal threat should then be defined as a line across the front of the base, not the 2 sides.

Re: Evasion question
Just to be clear, as I fear my explanation may be itself ambiguous, the extended lines I refer to are as in the diagram on page 33 of Impetus 2. If in the diagram the angle of unit A is slightly less than shown, such that unit Y crosses into the frontal zone of A as it approaches, then A would have the option of evading.
As they say, 'one picture is worth a thousand words'.

Re: Evasion question
Yes, the two lines that extend out from the two front corners of the base in the picture on p.33. If a charging unit cross one of those two lines as it moves to contact then the defending unit is entitled to evade. Same as Impetus. I am not sure what you are thinking stecal.

Re: Evasion question
its the same effect as if you just drew a line across the front to the base and say "anywhere in front of here" or just say any charge that contacts the side or rear you cannot evade.
