Great set of games today, we only have starter forces so only did 300 points but managed to get in four games.

2 to Rome and 2 to Persia

We just had some straight up fights without terrain to get used to the rules and I really enjoyed it.

We both had lists made from the stuff we had actually managed to paint rather than using a great force selection technique.

The plodding Romans actually managed to encircle my cav heavy force in one game which was not as much fun as me running down her skirmish troops.

Onward and upwards to 400 points next, trying to get the Sparabara finished so I can go EAP but don't expect my troops to last long in a fair fight.

Nice.

IMO these are a very under rated set ancient rules.
They have always given me a great game.

Good luck with your 400 point games

EIR vs EAP Empty Now with added Spanish

Post by Baldie Sat Sep 05, 2020 3:53 pm

More Impetus 2 today.

Game one Reece with his newly completed Spanish vs Dale's EIR

Table was pretty bare so Reeces Hope's of using terrain were dashed. The Romans line of stabby and a little shooty death marched towards the much longer line of Spanish. Cavalry clashed on the Spanish right and the Spanish got the best of it breaking the Roman's cavalry division.
The lines in the centre hit each other and Dale proceeded to roll some of the worst dice rolls seen in the club. Auxiliary and Legion units were bumped off and the Spanish started to wrap around the Roman's.
Game ended in a Spanish win so first blood for the new paint job.

Game two was the Spanish vs my EAP

My much better and much shootier cavalry took out the Spanish cavalry with the cunning tactic of sitting still when in range and peppering the enemy whilst Reece decided to help me by his inability to rally his disordered units. I like that disordered units loose wounds each time they are hit. It gives me the feel of archers picking on a numer of units to make em a little less effective in combat of all zeroing on one to take it out.

The Spanish infantry advanced towards my Immortals and Sparabara, the skirmish units got pin cushioned then a unit of foot got taken out and that was it before the Spanish managed to hit my line.

Reece never got to advance more than twice a turn as he kept failing his rolls, if his line had hit mine if would have been much tougher. Both my Cavalry and Infantry commanders lost a command level during the game but luckily they were not trying to do anything complicated.

We def plan more games.

Happy you are getting to grips with things and enjoying teh games.

I quote the above because in my view, thinking of units losing "wounds" is exactly the wrong metric. It's not damage or casualties, it's increasing disorder, eating away at a units cohesion and ability to act.
