With the new rule on large T units was there any agreement on how to cost these units. If we take the Sparabara in the Early Achaemenid Persian List in EI 4 as an example the current costing is

Front Unit 17
Back Unit 13

With the front unit now the firing unit in Impetus I am remembering two possible options based on the earlier thread on this subject.

Front Unit 24 VBU4, +1 Impetus, B class, Short Bow A, Palvese
Back Unit 18 (75% if front unit)

or

Front Unit 24 VBU4, +1 Impetus, B class, Short Bow A, Palvese
Back Unit 11 VBU4, +1 Impetus, B class

Can anyone remember what was finally decided.

Lorenzo decided to leave the points as they were for simplicity IIRC and the change in costs was minimal.

Your method A doesn't work as the back rank doesn't have bow or pavaise

Thanks Cyrus.

I never did understand why the back rank isn't considered armed with Short Bow A. In other large units the cost of the weapon type is paid for by front and back. Take pike or short spear. The large unit of Kataphracts in the Nikephorian Byzantine list has both units charged with Composite Bow C even though only the back rank fires (perhaps there needs to be a rethink on how that unit works now that there are Large T units.)

It's a can of worms these 'mixed' large units eh?...I mean the discussion we recently had on two types of discipline ratings in the same unit springs to mind.
Think Ken is right though Lorenzo decided to leave things as is for the Sparabara when it came points cost.

I think the feeling was that the elements of a larhe T unit were different from those of a Large FP Long Spear because they only got the benefit once - ie they shot once between them rather than once each. The benefits of a Long Spear armed unit apply in more circumstances, ie the long spear works irrespective of which unit is attacked, the pavais only applies to the unit if charged or shot at from the front. Additionally one of the main benefit of LU is depth bonus in combat, which the Ts would not provide. Its far from ideal but it does work
