Late Roman FP with long Spear in a large unit with T Archers.  Does the +1 melee modifier for a large unit with Long Spear apply even though the rear rank has short bow A?

Stecal, there would be no depth bonus in that situation. All units that are part of the large unit must be similarly equipped. This was confirmed by Lorenzo in the following thread:

The Late Romans have lots of options to deal with warbands. Supporting cavalry can really make their life miserable.
