Auto destroy artillary

I know Art are auto destroyed if contacted but does that include if behind fortifications?

No - the important thing is "in the open" so theyre ok in woods or behind fortifications

This question caused me mild panic, as I may be adding fortifications to my list for Derby, and although I am sure Cyrus is correct, I could not find the rule to confirm it. As far as I can see, there is no statement in the rules or in Advanced Impetus that says Artillery are not auto destroyed when behind fortifications. The only reference I can find is in Extra Impetus 2, Fortifications Tutorial. Paragraph 3 says "Artillery and Skirmishers defended by fortifications are not dispersed but fight normally." So this looks like a clarification that could be usefully included in Advanced Impetus.

As for Artillery in woods, I suspect they will be auto-eliminated.

EI2 Fortifications Tutorial makes it clear that Artillery are not dispersed by contact with enemy forces but it probably should be specifically included in Advanced Impetus.

This is a good example why we need the upcoming V2 of the rules

I only have EI4 as ancient pike armies and their opponents are my interest and would have no idea such a rule existed

How many other clarifications and rule changes are in the other booklets?

i used artillery and fortifications not long ago in Italy. i remember i had to look long and hard to find the "new" rule in writing.

it was published as "plugin impetus upgrade" on the impetus web page. this was a 7 page PDF of all the official rule amendments in the EI books
