BU relationship to distances
Unit width is 12cm so a BU is 6cm
How integral is the BU to unit size and movement/maneuvering etc...?
6cm is an awkward measurement, great if you can make templates/rulers specific for this. In many games I play, even where units/bases are in cm, movement is in inches (imperial fights back).
If I use 3inches (7.62cm) instead of 6cm , or 2inches (5.08cm), would that distort the mechanics and outcomes ? I have measures in 40mm so 8cm BU may also be an option.
p.s. I'm not fond of 1/2 measures , so avoided 2.5inches (6.35 cm) which would be closer

I don't think a minor change will matter much. For example, we are using 10cm BU instead of 9cm for 25mm because I already have lots of Impetus move sticks made up in 2cm increments.

I my experience it does make a difference in going between 6 cm and 3". That is a 25% difference in movement rates. In playing Impetus we used to play in inches but then made up proper rulers with 2 cm Us.

I agree in Impetus 2cm compared to inches made a huge difference.....I remember that conversation we had about this on the old forum.
Not so sure with Baroque but this sort of change often has consequences to the table size your playing on also.
I suppose you could try and see how it goes but like Gaius we've found it more trouble than it's worth usually

Re: BU relationship to distances
I'm going to do 24cm units so that's a BU of 12cm.
I 've got a 8x5 foot table so that should be ok.
Anyway here's the question -if I used a standard BU of 9cm with these bases would there be an issue?

Wheeling would be slower, but otherwise no.

Re: BU relationship to distances
Have played a few games now using 3inch BU (15mm with 12cm units) and it seems to work great.
We have been using 600pts on a 4'x3' (120x90) table, deployment zones of 6inch (only 2BU so a little tight), leaving 24inch (8BU) between the armies.
