Improvement of Impetuous Units in Impetus 2
We have noticed a significant improvement in impetuous units in Impetus 2. Whereas in the Impetus 1, impetuous units were quite restricted in their use in Impetus 2 they have essentially total freedom of movement. We find that the bonuses for impetuous out weight their minuses and this feature has become an asset. Personally I think the change went from one extreme to the other and would have preferred something in between.
One amendment we have instituted in our group is that when rolling for bonus charge distance or pursuits impetuous units must roll 2d6 and take the higher score. We have removed the discretion of player of deciding to roll only one die. This is especially important in pursuits.

We found it odd that impetuous groups were not forced to use their charge movement bonus when they fail a Frenzy test. Also, impetuous units should not be able to use potential charges, IMHO.

Re: Improvement of Impetuous Units in Impetus 2
I think it all depends what "impetuosity" is trying to model.
The old view of wild, uncontrolled hairy charges is kind of out of vogue now for many things like Gauls for instance.
A more general lack of control once in close proximity is more likely and that would seem better reflected in making DISC tests slightly harder.
I'm not in favour of making it impossible for Frankish knights to potential charge to clear their front of peasants but it should come at some risk of losing control.
I general I'm not a fan of imposing tactics by banning maneuvers to certain troops. Rules should instead strive to support 'historical'* tactics by making them a good option, not the only option.
*historical tactics of course become rather moot when your Successor phalanx faces off against medieval French!

I kinda agree that Impetuous has been modelled in wargames for quite a time as some kind of frantic, insane suicidal charge. If it is being toned back in Impetus I expect we can will see a substantial increase in points cost for impetuous troops

I think the approach to Impetuous in Impetus 2 is superior to Impetus 1. I am not eager to return to impetuous rules in the earlier edition. I just think that the shift has gone from one side to the other. I like some your ideas Zippee. How would that look game terms I wonder.
